ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. To obtain Duplicate Tourist Vehicle Permit in Karnataka the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO offices: Contacts Link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 10 - 15 days.

  • You should be the owner of the vehicle.
  • The age of the vehicle should not exceed 2 years.

ValidityEdit

  • A tourist vehicle permit shall be valid for...
    • 9 years in the case of a motor cab (passenger not exceeding 6 excluding driver).
    • 8 years for vehicles other than a motor cab.
    • In case of a vehicle covered by a tourist permit is proposed to be replaced by another vehicle, the new vehicle age should not be more than two years.
    • The age of the vehicle is also considered to restrict the validity of the permit.
NOTE: The period [9 years or 8 years] shall be computed from the date of initial registration of the motor vehicle.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • As per Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989, Tourist Vehicle Permit are granted to owners whose vehicles are used for tourism purposes.
  • Tourist Vehicle Permit (Jeep/Omni/Car) is needed for an tourist vehicle operator for the vehicle to carry passengers on a rental basis from one place to another.
  • These motor vehicles are constructed or adapted to carry allowed number of passengers as per permit, but not more than the allowed number of passengers, excluding the driver for hire purpose.
  • One cannot operate his vehicle without this permit in the allowed route.
  • If the permit is lost, stolen, damaged or misplaced then one need to apply for a duplicate permit for the vehicle

  • It is advisable to go to the Deputy Commissioners Office between 9:00am to 5:00pm.
  • An operator with Tourist Vehicle Permit should not allow more than allowed number of passengers in his vehicle.
  • Proper payment of fees is required to travel in other states other than the permitted state.
  • FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle by the RTO authorities.
