Apply in Person

  1. To apply for National permit in Karnataka, the applicant has to approach the RTO office where the permit was obtained.
  2. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office: Contact Link
  3. Download Form 46 and 48 from the following link: Application Form.
  4. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  5. Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  6. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  7. Important verification for the permit includes Vehicle condition, Body built arrangements etc... Will be carried by authorities.
  8. After checking the vehicle for its correctness and other appropriate requirements the application will be processed further.



Apply Online:

  1. To Apply for National Permit (All India) the applicant has to make the application online via the following link link
  2. The applicant has to enter their vehicle registration number and last five digit of their chassis number.
  3. Then the applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested
  4. After successful payment the applicant can click on print permit to download the national permit receipt.

  • Application for the grant of National Permit in FORM 46 and 48: Link.
  • Registration Certificate of the vehicle.
  • Fitness Certificate of the vehicle.
  • Proof of payment of tax for the current quarter.
  • Insurance Certificate.
  • Payment of green tax wherever applicable.
  • Affidavit Sworn by the applicant before an Executive (or) a First Class Judicial Magistrate (or) Notary Public
  • Passport size photo-2
  • No object certificate from the financier, if the vehicle concerned is covered by HPA / Lease / Hypothecation.
  • Pollution under control certificate
  • PROOF OF ADDRESS (any one of the following to be produced)
    • Ration Card / Aadhaar Card / Electoral Roll / LIC Policy / Passport / Pay slip issued - Govt. Office (or) a Local Body
  • Age Proof (any one of the following)
    • School Certificate / Birth Certificate

  • You should be the owner of the vehicle.
  • Age of the vehicle will also be considered for grant of permit.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • As per the Section 66(1) of M.V.Act.1988 no owner of a motor vehicle shall use or permit the use of the vehicle as Transport Vehicle in any public place unless he obtains a permit from Regional or State Transport Authority. Issuance of National Road Permit is the subject of State Transport Authority only
  • National Permit is needed for a vehicle operator to ply his vehicle in more than 4 states.

  • Holder of the permit shall furnish to the Regional Transport Authority such periodical returns, statistics and other information as the State Government may, from time to time, prescribe.
  • FC (for clearance) is a process meant for reviewing the condition of the vehicle by the RTO authorities.
