ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. Any buyer/farmer who wants to buy a cow without a middleman must approach the Government Livestock Farms/Animal Market Committee/Gaon Panchayat or the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in the locality.
  2. Find a list of district-wise contacts to Government Livestock Farms and schemes in the given Link.
  3. Make sure that the person has all the necessary documents mentioned in the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  4. The person may also buy directly from government licensed cattle markets/local farms in their area or a trader/agriculturist in the locality.
  5. Cows are also transported from various cities/towns to cow sanctuaries by the local body. One may approach the local Municipal Corporation to purchase a cow. For more information, visit Link
  6. In rural areas, the cow can be procured through Gaon Panchayat. Follow the "External Links" section on this page below, to find a district-wise list of Gaon Panchayats in Delhi.
  7. One must assure the quality and breed of the cow before buying it.
  8. The buyer must milk the cow once before paying for it. Find more information in the "Information which might help" section on the page below.
  9. Ensure that the cow is fully vaccinated while purchasing it.


Note:
  • The cow must be healthy during its purchase.
  • Do not buy a cow who is stressed or bred in an unhygienic condition, the cow might not produce enough milk.


Apply Online

  1. Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, Government of India has established an online portal for the buy and sale of cows directly. Visit Link
  2. One may find the list of breeds and prices in the catalogue provided on the website. No login is required to check the details of the animals. Click on the "View details" option under the image of the animal.
  3. The concerned person/farmer may check the price and breed of the cow and select the "Click to buy" option in the portal.
  4. Add the breed to the cart and proceed.
  5. The person must register/login as a farmer/buyer, providing their Login credentials (username, password), personal details (Name, DOB, etc), Location details (Address, Taluk, Village, etc), Contact Details (Mobile Number, Email ID, and so on), Bank details (Account Number, IFSC, etc) and verify their Aadhar No. in order to buy a cow from the website.
  6. An OTP will be generated on the registered phone number.
  7. On successful completion of the registration, the person will be redirected to the payment page after login.
  8. The person may choose to pay online.
  9. A receipt will be generated once the transaction is complete.
  10. The animal will be delivered to the farmer's doorstep by the service providers.

  • Registered Dairy/Farm License.
  • Registered address proof or land deeds leased/owned for farming/dairying.
  • ID proof of the buyer (PAN Card & Aadhar Card).
  • Agriculturist/Trader License.
  • An undertaking that serves as documentary proof that he/she is an agriculturist.
  • An undertaking that he/she will not sell the cow at least for six months from the date of purchase.

EligibilityEdit

  • The person must be licensed as a farmer/trader under the National Dairy Development Board/Gaon Panchayat/National Programme for Bovine Breeding.
  • Must have an agriculture/trade license.
  • The cow shall be tagged and provided with Animal Wellness Card by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

  • Government-subsidized cows: Free of cost (under schemes introduced by the Government of India)

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The documents such as address proof, identity proof, license and undertaking provide the seller adequate assurance that the buyer is not a smuggler and the cows are not bought for slaughter.
  • The documents provide proof that the buyer holds a genuine position in livestock/dairying farming as a citizen of India.
  • After providing the documents, the Animal Market Committee will ensure that the purchaser will not sell the cow for slaughter or religious sacrifices.
