Procedure

If your driver license is valid and it’s stolen or lost, then you would have to file a FIR with the local police station and the report is the vital document to apply for the duplicate driving license. In case the license is mutilated, torn or damaged, then the FIR is not required. The remains of valid license can be submitted along with application

• To apply for a Duplicate Driver License in Gujarat the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to.

• The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying duplicate driver license
  
• Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO office. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application and issue the duplicate driver license.

1. To apply for duplicate driver license, the applicant has to visit the official portal of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways: Link to Portal
2. In the homepage, please scroll down to “Informational Services” and click on the “more” button in the “Citizen Guide” tab.
3. The applicant will be taken to the “Manual” page where all the available services will be listed.
4. Please click on the name of the required service and click on “Step by Step procedure” from the drop down menu.
5. The applicant will be taken to a new PDF page where the process for applying will be explained clearly.
6. Please follow the steps to complete the application.

2. Application and Intimation of loss or destruction of driving license in Application “Form LLD”  : Form LLD
   
3. Details of Driving License
   
4. Aadhaar card
   
5. Passport size photos-2 copies
   
6. The original remains of license is to be surrendered in case of driving license mutilated, torn or damaged.
   
7. An ID Proof with your photo and a residential proof is required. (Voter's card, Aadhaar Card, passport etc. can be used for this purpose.)

Validity

• Validity of the license remains same.
  

1. Driving licence issued is valid throughout India.
   
2. Driving licence is issued for 20 years or 50 years of age whichever is earlier.
   
3. Driving licence issued for transport vehicle will be valid for three years.

Need for the Document

• A driving license is an official document that states that a person may operate one or more types of motorized vehicles, such as a motorcycle, car, truck, or a bus, on a public roadway.
  
• Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving License issued to him, authorizing him to drive a vehicle of that particular category.
  
• Driving without Driving license is an offense. Incumbent has to pay penalty
  
• In order to avoid unnecessary penalty and enquiry one has to get the duplicate driving license for the one they lost or damaged.
