Procedure

Every registered nurse, nurse practitioner or midwife shall, on or before the 31st day of December in each year, apply for renewal of the practice license at least one month prior to the expiration date of the current license. General Nursing Council of Zambia - Regional Offices Contact Details

Apply in Person
Step 1: Make a renewal payment

1. This process should be the first step for an easier renewal procedure. Make payments of renewal fees as specified by the General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNCZ) to the council accounts. Payments should be made through the following bank accounts and proof of payment (Bank Payment receipt) shared with the council registrar's office.

Step 2: Make the application for renewal of the practice license:

1. Applicants should visit the General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNCZ) offices either at Lusaka or Kitwe to make the application.
2. The application shall be made in such a manner as prescribed by the Council, applicants will be required to complete the license renewal form obtainable at the council regional offices.
3. Carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections then attest the forms with your signature once completed, attach all the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section below, before submitting the complete dossier for verification and processing.
4. After the successful screening of the submitted documents, Where the registry office is satisfied that the applicant has complied with all the requirements as may be applicable; and has continued demonstrating a capacity to meet the obligations and compliance requirements as stipulated by the Council, it shall, within thirty days of receiving the complete application, approve the application.
5. The applicant will be notified to collect his/her Practicing license via text or phone call. One is required to bring proof of identification and surrender the expired license before being issued the renewed license.
6. A practicing certificate shall be valid up to 31st December of each year and shall be renewed annually.

Apply Online

1. Licensed Nurses/ midwife can renew their practice license with the General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNCZ), using a browser applicant should visit the GNCZ Website and click on the “Access Online Service Portal” tab.
2. Upon entering the portal’s homepage, log into your GNCZ online portal account, using your registration credential (Email and Password). If you don’t have an account, you have to create one by clicking on the “Sign Up for Online Service” hyperlink.
3. Under the “Register for Online Services” menu, input the required information.
4. Select “STUDENT” or “PRACTITIONER” under the “SELECT CATEGORY” option.
5. For students Enter the student index number, ID number, and email address
6. For practitioners enter the Registration Number, ID number, and email address.
7. Enter your personal details and press save. Ensure that you enter your correct email address. Create a unique username and password.
8. Click on the tab “registration and licensing tab”
9. Click “renewal for practice license”
10. Fill in your work experience, academic qualifications, knowledge of rules, and other nursing/midwifery licenses that you may be having.
11. Upload the required scanned documents and press next. These documents include
    • • All Nursing Council Registration Certificates;
      • National Identity Card [ID]/Alien [ID] and passport;
      • Two (2) colored passport-size photographs;
      • Expiring original nursing practice license; and
      • Evidence of having undergone 40hrs of professional training/ CPD Log Book.
12. Enter the bank transaction number indicated in the payment slip. The payment date is the date you deposited money in the bank.
13. Submit your application and print the application notification.
14. The license is usually ready after a period of 30 days. Notification for collection will be made through email and text messages.
15. One is required to collect the license in person from the NCK offices. One is required to carry proof of identity during collection.

Eligibility

• The individual should be registered with the Council and a holder of a practicing license.
• To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
• To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.

Fees

• Please consult with the General Nursing Council of Zambia.
• Application received after the deadline will attract a penalty fee of 50% of the subscription due fees.

Validity

• A practicing certificate shall be valid up to 31st December of each year and shall be renewed annually.
