ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for patent registration in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA), for the main office visit link.
  2. Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. Where one or more of the inventors, who jointly created an invention cannot be found or reached for purposes of filing the Registrar may, on being satisfied, allow an application to be made with the inclusion of the name or names of the missing inventor or inventors.
  4. An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) office, find the form here.
  5. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form.
  6. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
  7. Pay the fee as given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  8. After the completion and verification of all the required documents, the applied patent is eligible to be registered.
  9. The patent will be registered in a stipulated Period of Time.

  • A request for the grant of a patent.
  • A description of the invention.
  • One or more claims.
  • Drawings, where they are referred to in the description or the claim.
  • An abstract or any other requirements as may be prescribed.
  • Proof payment receipts.
  • Proof of identification document(s) of the inventors or creators.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant can be an inventor or a creator.
  • The group of applicants must have at least one (1) local inventor who must be:
  • Resident in Zambia
  • 18 years and above
  • Of sound mind



FeesEdit

  • Local Companies patent fee - K333.30
  • Foreign Companies patent fee: K2000.10
  • Registration Fee: K4,166 (Flat fee)



ValidityEdit

  • The name clearance certificate is valid for 30 days and the patent will be valid until the company decides to change to another name.

  • Any other information, as may be prescribed.

  • NRC number
