ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for an employment visa in Zambia, the applicant or in this case, an agent (who is applying on behalf of the subject) will have to visit the department of immigration, for the main office visit link.
  2. Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the department of immigration.
  4. Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form.
  5. Submit the application form with necessary attachments to the office.
  6. Pay the fee as per given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  7. After the completion and verification of all the documents, the visa will be accessible.
  8. Collect the visa from the office or wait for the visa to arrive via post on the postal address in a stipulated time.


Apply-Online

  1. Visit the following online registration portal.
  2. Login if you already have an account or register yourself.
  3. Provide the details asked like name, email and passport number.
  4. Choose “Type of Representative” from the drop down menu provided.
  5. Click on the “register” button.
  6. Go to the login portal again and login with your username and password.
  7. After you have successfully logged into the system with your account credentials, click “My Profile” to access your personal profile information.
  8. Data form will display and the information will be organized in 3 tabs: Identity, Address, Contact.
  9. Fill in all the appropriate details and after you have finished click the “Save” button to save the information.
  10. Open the “Contact” tab and provide your up-to-date contact information, so that the Immigration Department could reach you for questions and notices. Otherwise, you may miss some important information. Click “Save” after you have finished.
  11. Now, go to “My Workplace” you will see a links under “Available Permits” for various permits
  12. Select “employment visa” service from the permits list present in the menu.
  13. Click “Next” and complete the application that consists of a form for an employment visa and again click “Next”.
  14. Review the application requirements, scan and upload the required documents, click “Next”.
  15. Preview the completed application form as a PDF file (you can print or save it for your records).
  16. If all information is correct, click “Confirm” and preview the system-generated Electronic Bill (you can print or save it for your records).
  17. If you accept the fees and have your credit card ready, click on the “Pay Online” button. and you will be redirected to the bank site for secure payment processing.
  18. Enter your billing details, click “Next” and then click the “Pay” button.
  19. Upon completion of payment, you will be returned to the Payment Receipt page.
  20. Review your payment confirmation message, print or download Payment Receipt in PDF format, for your records.
  21. To complete the application process, click on the “Finish” button. You will see the number of the application case you have submitted.
  22. The application can be tracked after logging in and going to the “submitted” section.
  23. Wait for approval of the application.
  24. When the application is approved, wait for the authority's action.
  25. Collect the visa according to the authority’s suggestion in a stipulated time.

  • Covering letter from employer addressed to the Director General of Immigration
  • Employment contract or Letter of offer
  • Police clearance from country of residence
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Registration certificate from the relevant professional body in Zambia (where required)
  • Certified copy of qualifications (academic, professional)
  • Copy of marriage and birth certificates (where available)
  • Certified copy of valid passport (bio data & last endorsement stamp for Zambia)
  • Certified Certificate of Share Capital and List of Directors
  • Copy of succession plan which shall include an understudy training program to be conducted by the foreign national to transfer knowledge and/or skills to the Zambian worker
  • A copy of the Certificate of Incorporation
  • In the case of Construction, Mining Sector, ICT, Engineering and other project based engagements, a covering letter specifying the project on which the expatriate would be employed, copy of letter of award specifying completion date and value of project must be submitted
  • Original Press advertisements which have appeared in two leading newspapers in A5 size. Name of Newspaper and date of advert should be clearly visible on the press advert and outcome of selection exercise must also be submitted
  • One recent passport size photographs
  • Prescribed fee receipt

EligibilityEdit

  • An Employment Permit is issued to a foreigner who enters the country to take up employment for a period exceeding six (06) months. It is issued to a foreigner who is:
  • Employed by the Government of Zambia or a statutory body;
  • Employed by the private sector, Non-Governmental Organisations (including a person employed as a volunteer) or a religious organization; and
  • The spouse and children, over twenty-one years, of a foreigner may be issued with Employment Permits if they are to be employed in the family business.

ValidityEdit

  • The employment permit is given initially for a period of 6 months and may be renewed for a further period not exceeding 10 years.

InstructionsEdit

  • Make sure to check the status of your application if you have applied through the online portal.
  • All applicants should remain outside Zambia until the permit has been approved. Further, only an Employer, a Practising Lawyer and an Immigration Consult can apply for Employment Permits on behalf of a prospective expatriate.
  • The individual expatriate cannot do this on their own.
  • Even the successful applicant is still required to apply for a visa to enter the country to collect the permit.
