Apply In-Person:
- To apply for a mining processing license in Zambia, the applicant will have to contact the ministry of minerals and mines development office of Zambia, for the main office visit link.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant upon visiting the Mines and Minerals department office.
- Once understanding the guideline properly, the applicant has to fill-in all the necessary information in the application form.
- The application can be both for Small Scale and Large Scale exploration.
- Submit an application with necessary attachments to the Mines and Minerals department office.
- Pay the fee as per given in the “Fees” section of this page.
- Approved application will be submitted directly to the Ministry of Mines and Minerals in Lusaka.
- Collect the offer letter from the office and pay area charges which takes around one day.
- Upon completion of above steps the applicant gets the license in a stipulated period of time.

- Written consent from the surface right holder or mining right holder.
- Proposed programme of mineral processing operations.
- Proof of proper provision for environmental protection.

EligibilityEdit
- Applicants should be a bona fide national of the country.
- The company should be a citizen-owned company.
- The area for which license is being applied for must be below 7485 Cadastre units.
FeesEdit
- License Fee: Pay the fee as per the authority request.
ValidityEdit
- The period for which a mining licence is granted depends on the category or class of mining to be undertaken. These are as follows:
- two years for artisanal mining.
- 10 years for small-scale mining.
- 25 years for large-scale mining.

InstructionsEdit
- Artisanal mining can only be undertaken by Zambian citizens or cooperatives wholly composed of Zambian citizens.
- Small-scale mining can only be undertaken by citizen-owned, citizen influenced or citizen empowered companies. A citizen-owned company (COC) is one where 50.1 percent of its equity is owned by citizens and in which the citizens have control of the management of the company.
- A citizen-influenced company (CIC) is one where 5-25 per cent of its equity is owned by citizens who also have significant control of the management of the company and a citizen-empowered company (CEC) is one where 25-50 per cent of its equity is owned by citizens.
- Renewal of a mineral processing licence must be made one year before the expiry of the licence.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- The license allows the individual business or enterprise holders to commence mining processing operations once approval has been granted by the Zambia Environmental Agency to do mining processing in Zambia legally.

- Holders of a mining license for large-scale mining or small-scale mining may construct and operate a mineral processing plant within the licence area without a mineral processing license.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
- The holder of a mineral processing licence is granted exclusive rights to carry on mineral processing in the mineral processing area specified in the licence.
