Uganda - Obtain a Mining License

ProcedureEdit

  1. To obtain a mining license in Uganda, the applicant has to contact the Geological Survey & Mines Department.
  2. Identify the area you intend to mine the intended minerals for purposes of prospecting those particular minerals.
  3. Indentify the true owners of the land in which you intend to carry out your mining operations by conducting due diligence.
  4. Upon identifying the true land owners negotiate, execute an agreement with the land owners and compensate them accordingly for purposes of allowing you carry out your mining operations on their intended land.
  5. Execute mineral agreement with the government of Uganda relating to operations in order to stabilize legal, social and economic obligations of either party to allow you prospect or explore the intended mineral to be mined.
  6. Survey the area of the land on which you intend to carry out your mining operations and have deed plan.
  7. Upon executing that mineral agreement, apply for the prospecting or exploration license from commissioner department of Geological Survey and Mines if the same had not been done before.
  8. Upon the commissioner granting you the prospecting or exploration license, proceed to prospect or explore the intended minerals for purposes of ascertaining the availability and quantities of the intended minerals in a given area.

Required InformationEdit

  • A person who intends to obtain a petroleum construction permit shall submit.
  • Name, address and nationality of the applicant.
  • In case of a body corporate, the corporate name, registered office address and country where it is incorporated.
  • Names, addresses and qualifications of potential principle contractors and supervisors to be employed for the project.
  • Description and location of the project, amount of investment capital, technologies to be used, site and construction plans.
  • The estimated date of completion of the project.
  • Environmental project brief or environmental impact statement in the form and with the information prescribed by the Environment(Environment Impact 4 Assessment) for further processing.
  • The description of safety programmes, equipment and plans for the protection of occupational health, industrial safety and environmental protection during regular construction operation as well as contingency plans for accidents, natural disasters and emergencies;
  • A Tax Identification Number for new investors and tax clearance certificate for existing companies.
