ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Temporary Disability Grant, the applicant has to approach the respective South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The fee for this procedure is free of cost.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  10. The applicant may be required to attend a medical assessment to confirm the extent of the disability.
  11. SASSA will provide the applicant with a date and time for the assessment in the receipt.
  12. Also, the officer will take the fingerprint of the applicant.
  13. Then the application will be processed further.
  14. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  15. For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
  16. This entire process can be completed within three months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

  • Proof of marital status (if applicable).
  • Proof of residence.
  • Proof of income or dividends (if any).
  • Proof of assets, including the municipal value of your property.
  • Proof of private pension (if any).
  • Your bank statements for the past three months.
  • Refugee status permit and 13-digit refugee ID.
  • Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) document ('blue book') or discharge certificate from the previous employer if you were employed.
  • A copy of the will and the first and final liquidation and distribution accounts, if the spouse died within the last five years.
  • Any other documents (If required)

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible for the Temporary Disability Grant in South Africa, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 59 years
  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident
  • Have a disability that is expected to last for at least six months but not longer than 12 months
  • Be medically certified as unable to perform any work or earn an income during the period of disability
  • Have no other means of support.
