Apply In-person
- To apply for Provisional Registration of Ship in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the South African Maritime Safety Authority.
- The contact details of the South African Maritime Safety Authority can be found in the following link: Link
- Visit the office and obtain Form 12 - Application for Registration Form as required from the relevant department. Or click here to download: Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
- Now, complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections. Attest it with your signature once completed.
- Then, pay the applicable fees as directed to the relevant bank account. Find the information regarding payment at the office.
- After paying the fees, attach all the required documents with the completed application and submit it to the relevant official at the office.
- Then, the application and attached documents will be forwarded to the concerned authorities for further verification processes.
- Once the verification and validation processes are over, the application will be approved and the officials will proceed to take required steps for the Registration.

- This application form is common for both commercial and recreational pleasure vessel, so the applicant needs to mark with an ‘X’ on whichever option he/she wants to make.
- Places that are not applicable to the type of vessel that you own should be filled with an N/A.
- Application form can be typed or completed neatly by hand as applicable to the applicant’s requirement.
- It is important that the completed form must contain all the information required properly and the form must be filled legibly, in order to get accepted by the Authority.
