ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Permits to Undertake Boat Based Whale and Dolphin Watching and White Shark Cage Diving, the applicant must go to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) office. Contact Link
  2. The DFFE will release the notification to apply for the permit, the applicants need to apply only after the notification is released.
  3. The date, time, and the location to submit the application form will posted in the notification as well as on the official website of DFFE after the notification release.
  4. Both the existing permit holder and new applicants can apply for the permit application.
  5. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the DFFE office at the Department of Environment Affairs.
  6. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the required documents it must be submitted to the officials at the DFFE office.
  8. If the details and the documents submitted by the applicant is valid and legitimate, then based on the permit limit available on the particular location will be approved by the DFFE official.
  9. Then the applicant will be issued with the permit certificate which can be used only in the government mentioned co-ordinate location and area.
  10. The applicant must pay the non-refundable application fee which is R9123.00, and proof of payment must be attached along with the other documents. (This is applicable for both BBWW and WSCD applications)
  11. The processing time to get the permit will be intimated after applying.

  • Confirmation of shareholding/ownership from registered auditors

    • If yes, provide details and any documentation regarding the offence
    • If yes, provide details and any documentation of any criminal matter pending?
    • If yes, provide details and any documentation giving rise to enforcement action for contraventions in terms of any environmental legislation
    • If yes, provide details and any documentation regarding the admission of guilt fine paid
  • Provide proof of investment or other investments made to BBWW
  • Provide proof of public liability insurance purchased

  • Anyone wishing to conduct boat-based whale and dolphin watching and white shark cage diving in the areas mentioned by the DFFE in the permit application invite notification is eligible to apply.

  • Non-Refundable application fee – R9123.00.



ValidityEdit

  • The boat-based whale and dolphin watching and white shark cage diving permit is valid for a maximum 10 years from the date of approval by the DFFE’s department of Environment Affairs.
