Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Medical Treatment Visa, the applicant must visit the South African Embassy or Consulate in the country that they are residing currently. List of SA embassies
2. The application form can be downloaded from the official VFS global website linked here. Application Form Link
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The application form must be filed with necessary details.
5. Later, the application form and all the necessary documents should be submitted to the officials at the South African embassy.
6. The application approval is entirely based on the visa officer decision.
7. If the visa officer is satisfied with the details provided and the supporting documents submitted by the applicant, then the spousal visa will be approved, and the decision will be conveyed to the applicant.
8. The application fee varies for different country. Therefore, the application fee details will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
9. The processing time to get the medical treatment visa is generally 4 working days.

Note:

• An immigration officer will visit the patient and if necessary, and then will issue the necessary medical visa.
• If the patient does not have a valid passport, she/he will be issued with a permit to legalise his or her stay for the duration of his or her hospitalisation.

Required Documents

• A passport with at least 1 free page for a visa, and must be valid for 30 days after end of the intended visit.
• Proof of financial means to cover your day-to-day expenses as well as those of persons accompanying. (The medical permit holder).
• Bank statements, or Travellers’ cheques.
• A letter from your medical practitioner or a medical institution, indicating the reasons/ necessity for treatment, the period of treatment and particulars of the treatment plans in the Republic of South Africa.
• Details of the person or institution responsible for your medical expenses and hospital fees.
• Proof of financial means or medical covered.
• Proof of sufficient financial means or provision for the costs indirectly related to the treatment.
• A copy of a return or onward air ticket.
• A vaccination certificate, if required by law.
• A yellow fever vaccination certificate if that person travelled or intends travelling from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic area.
• Proof of payment of the applicable fee.
