If you are currently in India

  1. Visit the representative office to enroll yourself. Following link provides Aadhar Card enrollment centers : Enrollment Centers
  2. Make sure you have all the necessary documents along with you.
  3. Aadhar card application process in the enrollment center will include your fingerprint scans, photograph and iris scans.
  4. They will provide you with a temporary slip (receipt of acknowledgement) for accepting your Aadhaar card application form.
  5. The form along with all the attachments will sent to the head office. After the verification process and once approved, you will get your Aadhar card by post at your home.


By Approaching Common Service Centers (CSC) In India

  1. You can also apply for Aadhaar (UID) card by approaching one of the CSC centers in your area. These centers are normally located in your nearest municipality office or Tehsil office.

If you are an foreigner (expat) and living in India for more than 182 days in total in a period of one year.

Update: Aadhaar center advised that only Indian Citizens are allowed for the Aadhaar card. Same was advised by the call center executive and supervisor. Information is very unclear around the eligibility.

Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Government of India. This number will serve as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.

Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident in India and satisfies the verification process laid down by the UIDAI can enrol for Aadhaar.

AADHAAR card is available free of cost to all citizen and residents of India, including NRIs and resident foreign nationals, regardless of the their citizenship. The procedure and document requirements for NRIs and Foreigners are same, as for any other resident of India.

If any NRI or a Foreigner wish to apply for the AADHAAR card, they have to be physically present at any of the AADHAAR card center in India. You can apply at any of the open AADHAAR card center near your location in India. Each individual needs to enroll only once which is free of cost. If you are a non-citizen of India, but you have lived in India previously and would like to apply for an Aadhaar card, you can contact any of the Indian embassy or consulates near by you, who should be able to help.

Each Aadhaar number will be unique to an individual and will remain valid for life. Aadhaar number will help you provide access to services like banking, mobile phone connections and other Govt and Non-Govt services in due course.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a central government agency of India. It is attached to the Planning Commission of India. Its objective is to collect the biometric data of residents, store them in a centralised database and issue a 12-digit unique identify number called Aadhaar to each resident. It is considered the world's largest national identification number project
