ProcedureEdit

Crime can be reported in different ways, for instance: -
1.By visiting police

  • A person starts by identifying a nearby police station;
  • When he arrives at the police post, he / she notifies the officer on duty about the crime he / she needs to report and a statement is recorded from him / her;
  • The reported crime is assigned a number and there after the police will proceed with case investigation;

2.Through making phone calls:

  • In this case police has always provided hotline and emergency numbers through which community can easily contact it. Some of the numbers that have been provided provided are the the Senegals police hotline 17 and emergency numbers for police in Dakar 33 823 71 49 / 33 823 25
  • A person who wishes to report crime chooses one of the given numbers, dials it and informs the person who receives it about a witnessed crime;

3.Tourist Police Unit

  • The government of Senegal also created a tourist police unit where a in the country can report any crime that he / she witnesses. In this case the unit is contacted by calling (+221) 860-3810;

2.It is very necessary to report crime with another person who witnessed crime;

3.Be ready to record a statement with the necessary authority;

4.Ensure that the witnesses is willing to make statement to support the occurrence of reported crime;

5.Public is always advised to avoid crime scene it is inspected;

2.Date and time when crime occurred;

3.Details of crime scene;

4.Details of the crime being reported (specification of crime / type of crime and how it occurred;

5.Details of suspect(s) if any

6.Details of witnesses (another person present at the crime scene)



Need for the DocumentEdit

Crime refers to situations where law is broken through an act. It can be either neglect or omission of law and is usually punishable by the law. Law enforcement in Senegal is done by the Police through its Directorate General of National Safety in conjunction with the Senegalese Gendarmerie therefore any person who wishes to report crime should report to the police.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

Crime records are used by authorities to identify places with high crime hence deploying security in such areas; Reporting give a chance of recovering for stolen property in cases where reported crime is theft; Reporting crime scares away criminals in cases where security is deployed after a report is received;
