Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Special Study Permit, the applicant has to approach the Bureau of Immigration office link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
11. This entire process can be completed within 15- 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

• Application Form
• Letter request addressed to the Commissioner from the representative of the petitioning school
• photocopy of passport bio-page and latest admission with valid authorized stay
• Certificate of Acceptance issued by the learning institution accredited by the Bureau of Immigration to accept foreign students, indicating the number of months (length of study) of the technical/vocational, special and/or primary or secondary level courses for applicants below 18 years of age
• 2 pcs 2x2 coloured picture
• Photocopy of BI school accreditation ID of the registrar or school representative
• in case of flying schools:
• National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA Clearance)
• National Bureau of Investigation (NBI Clearance)
• Bureau of Immigration (BI) Intelligence Clearance
• Photocopy of ACR I-Card (front and back portions), in case of renewal/extension
• BI Clearance Certificate

Eligibility

• Any non-Filipino student who is below 18 years of age must apply for special study permit.

Fees

• The application fee ranges from 3,000 pesos to 3,300 pesos depending on the region and city.

Validity

• The validity of Special Study Permit is six months.

Need for the Document

• Special Study Permit is intended for foreign student who is under 18 years old and/or taking Audit/non-credit subjects.

Information which might help

• Special Study Permit (SSP) should be filed every six (6) months before the student reaches 18 years old as mandated by Bureau of Immigration.
• Foreign student should not leave the country while SSP has not yet been implemented
• Foreign student needs to update/ extend tourist visa before it expires to avoid penalties at Bureau of Immigration.
• Foreign student, below 18 years old, who has Balikbayan (BB) visa is exempted to extend tourist visa for one (1) year only
