- Obtain all necessary documents in applying for the change of name.
- Submit your application along with all other requirements.
- Once the new name or surname is accepted, you may proceed in registering your new name.
Required DocumentsEdit
- Passport of the person who wants to change his name;
- Birth certificate;
- Certificate of marriage or divorce (if the person is or previously married). Submission of documents is not required if a certificate executed and issued the Civil Registry Office in Moscow after 31.03.2012 during registration conclusion (termination) of marriage, as well as repeated, or on the basis of the revised (Amendment) Act records for the period from 01.01.1990;
- Birth certificate of minor children of such person;
- Consent of the parents, adoptive parents or guardians of a minor change to their name (must be expressed in writing, in person in the registry offices or notarized), and in the absence of such an agreement - duly certified copy of the court decision, which entered into force, for permission to produce State registration of the name change in the absence of consent of the parents (one of them);
- Receipt of payment of state duty of 1600 rubles;
- Receipt for payment of registration fee of 350 rubles (if the registry changes are made in connection with a change of name for each change to be recorded).

On the issue of the state registration of changes name (surname, first name and (or) middle name) you can contact the Registry Office at the place of residence or place of registration of your birth. Statement of name change is seen within one month from the date of application.
FeesEdit
The state duty for state registration of the name change, including the issuance of the certificate is 1600 rubles.

Processing TimeEdit
Documents issued one month after the date of application. If there are valid reasons defined by the Federal Law "On Civil Status", the head of the registry office, this period may be extended, but not more than 2 months.

How you should go about changing your name will depend upon which category you fit into. To change your name, submit a petition to your local Superior Court that details the reasons you'd like to change your name. After the court approves your request, you'll then need to update your Social Security card, driver's license and passport.
