Qatar - Replace Lost or Damaged Vehicle Plate

ProcedureEdit

  • This service enables individuals and establishments to submit a request online on the Ministry of Interior (MOI) website to replace a lost or damaged vehicle plates.

Apply In-Person
Step 1: Obtain a Police Report

  1. You (the owner) should start by visiting a police station to report the loss or damage of the vehicle plates. You are to acquire a police report from the police authorities which is a prerequisite to making the application.
  2. Attach this police report with your application.

Step 2: Make application for reissue.

  1. The owner should then visit the traffic office with the General Directorate of Traffic offices/branches of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) personally to make the application for replacement/ reissue of the lost or damaged vehicle plates.
    • To make an application for reissue of vehicle plates belonging to a light vehicle is done at main traffic office (Madina Khalifa) while heavy vehicles are done at the Industrial Area traffic.
  2. Here you will be guided by a concerned traffic staff to fill up a prescribed computer form for issue/ replacement of the vehicle plates.
    • Choose the plate shape you require: (long, short, long and short).
  3. Verify that the information provided is correct and then submit the required documents. These include :
    (i) Pieces of damaged vehicle number plate (if applicable)
    (ii) Police report of the lost/ damaged license
    (iii) Vehicle registration card.
    (iv) Passport or Qatar ID
    (v) Establishment card (in case of a company)
    (vi) Residency permit (in case of expatriates)
  4. Proceed to pay the prescribed fees and submit the payment receipt. The fees details are mentioned at the “Fees” section of this page.
  5. After verifying the data of the vehicle and license validity, and application the new vehicle number plate will be issued on the same day.
  6. The new number plate will be fixed on the vehicle replacing the damaged/lost number plate at the number plate changing office.



Apply Online

  1. One can make an application to replace a lost or damaged vehicle plate online. You should start by visiting a police station to report the loss or damage of the vehicle registration license. You are to acquire a police report from the police authorities which is a prerequisite to making the application.
  2. The next step is to log in with your smartcard to the e-services portal of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) by clicking on the MOI Services tab and selection the E-services option.
  3. If you do not have an account with the MOI e-portal, you have to register for the services using your smart card.
  4. Once logged in, click on "Traffic Services” on the dashboard then click on the “Replace Lost/Damaged Vehicle Plate”.
  5. In case you wish to inquire about all of your vehicles, leave the default option "My Vehicles" as is, click “Next”, and then choose the selection button available in front of the vehicle plate number you want to issue a lost/ damaged replacement license for.
  6. In case you wish to inquire about a certain vehicle, click on Specific Vehicle option, then enter the plate number and vehicle type (private, taxi, limousine ... etc.).
  7. Select the replacement type (lost plate, damaged plate, two damaged plates).
  8. Select the plate shape: (long, short, long and short).
  9. Determine the mechanic workshop for the installation of the new plate, from the workshops’ selection list.
  10. Proceed to fill out the fees form, and then click on "Pay Fees". Complete the payment process using a bank card to receive the new plates.
  11. After successful payment, the user may visit the Traffic Department to collect the new plates in the number plate changing office, or wait for its delivery via Qatar Post.

Note:

  • In case of losing both of the number plates of the vehicle, the both will be cancelled from the records of the Traffic Gen. Directorate and new number plates different from the old number plates will be issued.
  • As well if the single number plate of Trailer is lost, a new number plate with a new number will be issued.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Almost all vehicles bear a unique vehicle identification number, but only registered ones display a vehicle plate and carry a vehicle registration certificate. Therefore one needs to replace the vehicle plate once it’s lost.
  • All registered vehicles display a vehicle plate. It’s illegal to drive a vehicle without a vehicle number plate. Vehicle registration is a requirement by the state. Its purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners.
