Procedure

Diplomatic missions and International organization members can replace their lost or damaged Diplomatic Driving Licenses by submitting a request to the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to obtain a diplomatic driver’s license replacement.

Step 1: Obtain a Police Report

1. The applicant should start by visiting a police station to report the loss or damage of the diplomatic driver license. You are to acquire a police report from the police authorities which is a prerequisite to making the application. # Attach this police report with your letter of application.

Step 2: Make Online Application

1. The next step in replacing a lost/ damaged diplomatic driving license in Qatar is the making an application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Protocol Department.
2. The Diplomatic missions and International organization member have to write an official letter requesting to replace a lost or damaged Diplomatic Driver’s License and submit the letter to the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
3. The applicant should attach the required documents to the letter of request while submitting it to the Protocol Department. The documents include:

   • Copy of diplomatic card
   • Original driving license of the applicant
   • Copy of lost Diplomatic driver’s license (if available)
   • Pieces of the damaged Diplomatic driver’s license (if applicable)
   • Police report of the lost/ damaged license.

4. The Protocol department officials will contact the competent authorities in the General Directorate of Traffic to complete the replacement application. This will be done by an official letter by the Protocol Department to the General Directorate of Traffic requesting the replacement of the Diplomatic Driving License.
5. After fulfilling all the requirements the General Directorate of Traffic officials will process the application and will communicate with the applicant once the procedure is finalized to issue the replaced diplomatic driver’s license.
6. This application is free of charge and is done under the principle of reciprocity.

Need for the Document

• The driving license is issued as an authority to allow a person to drive a motor vehicle of any class on a road in Qatar.
• No person is allowed to drive a motor vehicle on road in Qatar unless he is the holder of a valid driving license endorsed in respect of that class of vehicle.
• Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road is required by law carry his driving license or provisional license, and on being so required by a police officer, produce it for examination.
• The driving license shows compliance with Qatar’s traffic laws regarding driving.
