ProcedureEdit
- To obtain an import certificate for a plant the applicant has to contact the Department of Agriculture.
- Importer obtains the application form and submits the application form along with necessary supporting documents and sample of product to the plant protection division.
- The Plant Protection Division (PPD), accepts application and makes sure the application is completed and submits the samples to laboratory for further analysis.
- The PPD checks for live pests and if there is not live pests found then they issue an import certificate.
- The importer collects the import certificate. With the certificate that has been obtained the applicant can now import the plant into the country. But while importing, the applicant has to notify the Plant Protection Division, so they would check the imported commodities for pests.
- When importing the plant the applicant has to produce all the necessary supporting documents which must also contain, Phytosanitary Certificate from country of origin and pest list for importing commodities.
- When goods arrive at port, PPD takes sample product to test pest free as well as there will be visual inspection.
- PPD tests the sample product and provide the test result. If sample test found live pest in commodities, importers informed of rejection with reason.
- If sample test is pests free, PPD will issue the recommendation letter to allow the commodities entering to the country. The importer collects the result certificate from PPD and the process end here.
