InstructionsEdit

Qatar's Ministry of Environment's Department of Animal Resources is in charge of animal control and veterinary supervision of animal diseases. The department issues import permits, and oversees the exportation, transfer and transit of pets across borders. To import a pet to Qatar, you must be returning to Qatar, intending to reside in the country or have a work visa. Qatar does not quarantine healthy pets who meet the following requirements:

  • Qatar requires that you obtain an Import Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture. The permit is good for 30 days.
  • Your pet must be vaccinated for rabies and other diseases between 30 days and 12 months prior to entry.
  • Your pet must be microchipped with a 15 digit ISO 11784 compliant pet microchip. If your pet's microchip is not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, you can bring your own microchip scanner.
  • A licensed veterinarian complete a Veterinary Certificate for Qatar stating that your pet is healthy and free of parasites and free of diseases communicable to humans. If you are traveling to Qatar from another country, then the Governing Authority responsible for the import and export of animals should endorse the forms for you.
  • A copy of the Rabies Certificate should also be included for endorsement.
  • Submit the veterinary certificate and the vaccination certificate with an application to import a pet to the Ministry of Agriculture in Qatar.

This completes a pet passport for your dog or cat to enter Qatar.

Required InformationEdit

  • Pet details including health status
  • Estimated departure date
  • Size of travel box (height, width and length) (see info on right)
  • Final destination point
  • Weight of pet in the travel box with a blanket
  • Vaccination status

Need for the DocumentEdit

Qatar requires a 15 digit ISO compliant pet microchip, an Import Permit, proof of current rabies vaccination and a Veterinary Certificate for entry.

Qatar Pet Entry Regulations state that travelers must have an Import Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture to bring their pet into the country; however, there is no quarantine. Your pet must be vaccinated for rabies and other diseases at least 30 days but not more than one year prior to arriving in Qatar.

Information which might helpEdit

To make things easy, you may want to contact a pet relocator. There are relocators and veterinary clinics/kennels that help with documentation and internal logistics of pet relocation for Qatar. Two examples include: Qatar Pet Relocators and Doha Pet Relocators.

There is licensing system for cats and dogs in Qatar.

Dog are generally not allowed in public places, including parks and the Corniche. Dogs are allowed on some beaches, provided that they are leashed at all times.

Pet owners are encouraged to ID their pets through the use of tags, tattoos and microchips. The Department of Animal Resources offers a free trap, neuter and return program for cats that are micro chipped.

Both the police and Animal Resources are authorized to catch and handle stray dogs. Hamad General Hospital offers pet cremations for QR1, 000.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

Failure to comply with these regulations will mean that your pet will be refused entry or returned to the country of origin or placed in quarantine.

Whenever you travel to or from Qatar, it is always advisable to carry some form of identification indicating ownership of the pet.
