- To Obtain Professional as a Merchant Marine and Work Aboard Merchant Vessels or Naval Artifacts, the applicant has to approach the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further.
- They may conduct additional checks or interviews to ensure the applicant’s suitability for working in the merchant marine industry.
- If the application is approved, the applicant will be issued a license or seafarer's book (libreta de mar) that confirms his/her professional qualifications and authorizes him/her to work onboard merchant vessels or naval artifacts in Mexico.
- This entire process can be completed within 2 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

- Be a Mexican citizen or a foreigner with a valid residency permit.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Pass a physical examination and drug test.
- Complete a maritime training course approved by the Mexican government.
