Procedure

Following listed are various types for which a transfer of vehicle can be accomplished.

Transfer ownership of a vehicle purchased from someone

1. During the sale the previous owner should provide the new buyer with the following.

   • Registration book
   • 2 originals of the deed of sale
   • Certificat de Gage

2. The deed of the sale should be registered with the Registrar Generals Department within 15 days from the date of sale. Following link provides you contact information related to Registrar Generals Department : Registrar General Department Contact Info
3. The applicant has to call the NTA after the registration of deed of sale, with all the required documents mentioned under the Required Documents section of this page and along with the appropriate fees.
   
   

Transfer ownership of a vehicle purchased at Auction
The applicant has to contact the NTA with all the required documents and the appropriate fees to get the vehicle transferred.

• Registration book of the vehicle
• Deed of sale duly registered + 1 photocopy
• A Particulars of Motor Vehicle form obtained from the Vehicle Examination Centre certifying the roadworthiness of the vehicle
• A valid insurance certificate on your name.
  
  

Transfer of ownership of a vehicle in case of death of the registered owner
The applicant has to contact the NTA with all the required documents and the appropriate fees to get the vehicle transferred.

• Registration book of the vehicle.
• Original and 1 photocopy of the affidavit duly registered by the Registrar-General.
• In case of a vehicle with duty concession, a certificate from the Customs Department of the MRA authorizing the transfer of the duty concession to the Succession will have to be produced.
• In case there is a lien inscribed on the vehicle, an authoization from the body in favour of which the lien is inscribed for the transfer of the lien to the Succession will have to be produced.
  
  

Transfer of ownership of a vehicle under lease agreement

1. The lessee should contact the NTA with all the necessary documents that are listed under the Required Documents section and below with appropriate fees.
   

   • The registration book of the vehicle
   • A letter from the leasing company certifying that the lease may be cleared
   • 2 originals of the deed of sale
   • A letter of authorization from the leasing company allowing him to take out a Certificat de Gage.

2. The deed of the sale should be registered with the Registrar Generals Department within 15 days from the date of sale. Following link provides you contact information related to Registrar Generals Department : Registrar General Department Contact Info
3. The lessee should call at the NTA with the original deed of sale duly registered + 1 photocopy of the same document and a valid insurance certificate on his name in order to be registered as the owner of the vehicle.
