Need for the DocumentEdit

  • Registration of planters in Mauritius is necessary to ensure that the island's natural resources are managed and used in a sustainable manner.
  • This is especially important given the fact that Mauritius is one of the most densely populated islands in the world, and its natural resources are under immense pressure from both its growing population and the increasing demand for agricultural products.
  • Registration of planters allows the government to monitor and control how the land is being used, and to ensure that the production of agricultural products is carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • It also serves to ensure that those who are registered are held accountable for their actions, and that the environmental and economic costs of unsustainable land use are being addressed.
