Apply In Person
- To Register a Birth in Mauritius, the applicant should make the application to the Civil Status Office of the locality within the district in which the birth took place or in which the parents resided at the time of birth. Please view the Civil Status Division (CSD) office contact details through this Contact details.
- The applicant should visit the Civil Status Office and obtain the application form for the birth registration at the front desk.
- Read and complete the application accordingly and then the attach all the required documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” documents section below to the application form.
- Then submit the application dossier to the CSD official at the registrar service desk.
- The official will verify the application and confirm if all the supporting documents are provided.
- Once the applicantion is verified, the official will forward the application to the back office for processing.
- The CSD registrar will evaluate the application and if it meets the registration merits, the birth will be registered.
Registration of Birth on Mauritian ship or aircraft
- If the birth happens aboard a registered Mauritius Ship or Aircraft, the master of the ship or aircraft will write a memorandum of the birth.
- When the ship or aircraft arrives in Mauritius, the master will submit the memorandum to the Director of Shipping or the Director of Civil Aviation as the case may be and the director will transmit the memorandum to the Registrar of Civil Status for registration of the birth.

InstructionsEdit
- A birth should be registered within 45 days of the birth occurring, and if the birth is not registered within 45 days, an authorization should be obtained from the Registrar of Civil Status to enable registration.
- If the child is not registered within three months of the birth, the child’s parent or applicant will have to apply for a declaration before the Magistrate of the district where the birth took place.
- If the parents are civilly married to each other, only one parent may appear before the Civil Status Officer to declare the birth.
- If the parents are not civilly married and both wish to acknowledge the child, they should both visit the Civil Status Office to acknowledge the child and sign the registers of birth.
- If only one parent declares the birth, then the child will bear the surname of that parent.
