ProcedureEdit

Apply In Person

  1. To apply for the firearm license, the applicant should make the application to the Commissioner of Police under the Mauritius Police Force. Please view the Mauritius Police Force contact details through this Contact Details.
  2. The applicant of the firearm license should visit the police station and obtain the application form for the license and complete the application form as required.
  3. Then the applicant should gather and prepare all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and attach the documents to the filled application form.
  4. The applicant should then visit the Central Firearms Index, Police Headquarters Line Barracks at Port-Louis and pay the application fees of Rs.(MUR) 2800 at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
  5. Upon the payment, the applicant should submit the complete application along with the required documents to the office of the commissioner of the police.
  6. On receipt of the application, the officer in charge will review the application to check if it meets the required merits.
  7. If the application dossier is complete as required, the applicant will be issued with acknowledgment receipt of the application.
  8. Then the commissioner of the police through the responsible authority will conduct due diligence to verify the applicant’s details.
  9. If the application meets the required standards, the application will be approved for processing.
  10. Once processed the applicant will be issued the firearm license within three months.

  • Birth certificate (original and a copy).
  • National Identity Card (original and a copy).
  • Certificate of Character (original and a copy issued within one month from the date of application).
  • A competency certificate from a recognized training body showing that the applicant has the appropriate training and skills for handling firearms.
  • Two recent passport-size photographs.
  • Medical Certificate.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible to obtain a firearm license, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 18 years old or above.
  • Be physically fit and have normal eyesight.
  • Have a Competency Certificate.
  • Not involved in any domestic violence and criminal activities.
  • Have a clean record.
  • Have two safes, one for the safekeeping of Firearm and one for ammunition.
  • Have already reserved a Firearm before applying for the Firearm Licence.
  • Own an authorized letter from the owner of a Chassé or is the owner of a Chassé (for hunting purposes).
