Apply In-Person:
- To Obtain Certificate of Naturalization in person, the applicant has to approach the Defence and Home Affairs Division in Mauritius - Contact link
- The applicant should download the application form from this link. link
- Please ensure that they fill out the form in full, making sure to include all relevant information, and to attach all the required documents to the form before submitting it.
- The applicant must submit the application form, along with all the necessary documents, to the nearest Civil Status Office, which can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to complete the application process.
- A fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
- Once the application has been submitted, it will then be forwarded to the Defence and Home Affairs Division for further processing.
- The applicant will be required to appear before a Naturalization Board for an interview to assess their eligibility for naturalization as a citizen of the United States.
- The Naturalization Board will be conducting the interview, during which the applicant will be asked questions that are relevant to the application they have submitted, to assess whether they are eligible for naturalization.
- The Naturalization Board will then make a recommendation to the Minister of Defence and Home Affairs.
- The Minister, after carefully considering the recommendation presented to them, will make the decision to either grant or deny the application for a Certificate of Naturalization.
- If the Minister grants the certificate of naturalization, the applicant will be notified in writing of the grant and the certificate will then be issued to them, thus allowing the applicant to become a citizen of the country.
- The processing time for obtaining a Certificate of Naturalization can vary depending on the complexity of the application, but it takes around six weeks.

EligibilityEdit
To obtain a Certificate of Naturalization in Mauritius, applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a legal resident of Mauritius for at least five years
- Have a satisfactory knowledge of English
- Have a good character
- Have a minimum annual income of MUR 150,000
- Have a valid passport
- Have not been convicted of a criminal offence
- Have a valid residence permit

- A Certificate of Registration issued under the Mauritius Citizenship Act is valid for an indefinite period, but it should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.
