Apply In Person

  1. To apply for the Permanent Residence Permit (PRP), the applicant should make the application to the Residence Permit Section, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) (Defence and Home Affairs Division) at this address: 4th Floor, New Government Centre, Port Louis.   2. Visit the PMO’s office and obtain the application form for the PRP at the reception of the Residence Permit Section, you can also download the application form directly through this link Application form.
  3. Read and complete the application form accordingly and then gather and prepare all the required supporting documents as instructed in section 4 of the application form or as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below and attach the documents to the application form in a single file.
  4. Then go to the Residence Permit Section in the Prime Minister’s Office and pay the PRP application fee at the cashier's office and obtain the payment receipt.
  5. Upon the payment, submit the application to the officer at the Residence Permit Section.
  6. The official will verify the application dossier along with the application fee payment receipt and if the application is complete as required, the officer will issue the acknowledgment receipt containing details of the application.
  7. The application will then be forwarded to the relevant authority at the PMO’s office for assessment.
  8. The application will be assessed and if it is determined that it meets the relevant merits for the PRP, the application will be approved.
  9. After the approval, the Residence Permit Section will inform you the applicant of the approval through your contact detail and require you the applicant to pay the PRP fee.
  10. Go to the PMO’s office and pay the requisite fee at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
  11. Upon the payment, then PRP will be processed and issued to you the applicant.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Completed application form.
  • Photocopy of bio-data page of passport (The passport must have a minimum validity period of six months. The original passport should be produced while applying. It will be returned when the application is accepted).
  • Marriage Certificate (for an accompanying spouse only).
  • Four recent identical color passport size photographs (not older than three months).
  • Original Residence Permit to be returned after verification. (Not applicable to accompanying spouse and dependents).
  • Certificate from a medical practitioner in Mauritius showing that the applicant is not suffering from any infectious or contagious disease.
  • An affidavit to the effect that the applicant has not been convicted in his country of origin or residence of any criminal offense for the past 10 years covering the last 10 years.
  • Certificate from bank attesting that the appicant has transferred a minimum of USD 40,000 or its equivalent in convertible currency annually to Mauritius during the last 3 years. (Not applicable to accompanying spouse and dependents).
  • Application fee of MUR 1,000 payable by crossed cheque drawn to the order of Government of Mauritius.

EligibilityEdit

A holder of an Occupation Permit or Residence Permit is eligible to apply provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Retired non-citizen: Holder of a Residence Permit before 1 September 2020, with one monthly transfer of at least USD 1,500 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency, during the period of three years or two Cumulative transfer of at least USD 54,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency, during the period of three years.



FeesEdit

  • The application fee is MUR 1,000 while the PRP fee is MUR 75,000 paid upon approval of the PRP approval.



ValidityEdit

  • The PRP is valid for twenty years and it is renewable thereafter.

InstructionsEdit

  • An original passport should be produced. For birth and marriage certificates, copies are accepted if they are certified true copies. Copies may be certified by diplomatic missions, attorneys, or notaries. If copies are not in English or French, an official translation is required.
  • To obtain a medical certificate from a doctor in Mauritius, a test for HIV, Hepatitis B, and a chest X-ray should be done at any private medical laboratory/clinic/hospital in Mauritius. Tests results and Chest X-ray reports should be submitted. Children under 12 years old are exempted from doing the tests and the X-ray but should get a medical certificate. A permanent residence permit is valid for a period of 20 years. It exempts the holder from visa requirements when entering Mauritius. Upon expiry of the permit, a fresh application may be made for a new permit for another 20 years.
  • A permanent residence permit holder, except a Retired non-citizen, is free to take up employment without any work or occupation permit.
  • Only the principal permanent residence permit holder may acquire only one apartment in a building with at least two floors above the ground floor for his/her personal residence. An application to acquire the apartment for residential purposes has to be made to the Economic Development Board. Dependents are not entitled to purchase an immovable property
