Processing TimeEdit
The national identity card is not manufactured locally and therefore cannot be issued immediately. Manufacturing lead times on the location and period of the application.
If you have indicated a mobile number on the form, you are alerted by SMS as soon as the card is available.

- It is a must to apply personally especially that it requires capturing of fingerprints.
- A town hall could receive all applications.
- Procedures for national identity card applications are general (if you live in France and abroad).
- For minors, the supervisor must exercise parental authority - father, mother or guardian and must present his own identity document.
- All French minors may have an identity card regardless of their age (even a baby).

Need for the DocumentEdit
A National Identity Cards is issued to their citizens by the governments of all European Union member states except Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom, and also by Liechtenstein and Switzerland (the latter not formally part of the EEA). It is used as an identity document within their home country and as a travel document to exercise the right of free movement in the EEA and Switzerland.
