Apply In-Person
- For first time applicants, one needs to enrol yourself in a diving school, however No law obliges the applicant to be trained in driving school before taking the driving exams to obtain a driving license in Mali.
- You should visit the Regional Transport Directorate at the driving license section, or at the transport subdivision at the Circle level near you and;
- Collect necessary forms and accurately fill them;
- Make all necessary payment at the cashier desk, upon which you will be issued with a receipt.
- Attach all the required documents (listed below); and
- Submit the documents to be verified and recorded.
- The head of the permit section registers the file and transmits it to the Inspector who verifies compliance and affixes a visa.
- The file is then sent to the secretariat of the driving license division for registration, then returned to the inspector responsible to schedule a booking of the theoretical and practical examination. {For example for Bamako and Kayes, the exams take place from Tuesday to Thursday}.
- After the examination, the inspector draws up a report containing the list of definitive admissions.
- NB: If the candidate fails for the first time, he/she must re-appear the following week. If he/she fails a second time, he/she must reapply in a month. After six attempts, he/she resumed under the conditions of a new candidate.
- Candidates that have passed the exams will receives a success receipt (indicating his name, date of birth, license category and the day of the exam)
- Successful candidate’s files are then sent to the Regional Director who issues the candidate’s with a provisional driving license within 7 days that enable them to practice driving for a period of time.
- The candidate’s file slip is then sent to the National Directorate of Transport, to the “Production of Transport Documents” division for registration in the national file and issue of a driving license number.
- The “Production of Transport Documents” division establishes the final Driving License signed by the National Director or his deputy.
- The document is returned by slip to the Regional Directorate from where it originates and registered with the driving license division within one month.
- The applicant should then visit the Regional Directorate, Secretariat of the driving license section and present the receipt and / or receipt of the provisional license and your identity card to be verified and issuing of the license upon payment of the license fees.

EligibilityEdit
- You have attained the legal adult age of 18 years, and above for motor vehicle license, and 16 years and above for a motor cycle license
- You have passed the driving test and you are competent to drive that class of motor vehicle and that you hold a certificate of competence.
- You produce a medical certificate from a medical practitioner, stating that you are physically fit to drive that class or classes of motor vehicles in question.
FeesEdit
Driving schools:
- Apprenticeship to obtain a heavy vehicle license = 150,000 FCFA
- Apprenticeship to obtain a light weight license = 110,000 FCFA
- For each examination, the user pays 4,000 FCFA.
Driver's license:
- Application fees = 4,000 CFA francs
- Road Safety Fee = 5,000 CFA francs
ValidityEdit
The license renewal does not concern light-duty vehicles, but categories C, D and E, that is to say common transport vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles. It takes place every five years up to an age limit of 18 to 45 for the license holder. Beyond 4 years, renewal occurs every three years, and beyond 55, every two years.
- NB: for A and B permits, renewal is carried out only if necessary;

Need for the DocumentEdit
- The driving license is an official government document that allow/authorizes a person to drive a motor vehicle of any class on a road in Mali
- No person is allowed to drive a motor vehicle in Mali, unless he/she is a holder of a valid driving license or a provisional license endorsed in respect of that class of vehicle.
- Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road is required by law carry his/her driving license or provisional license all times, and produce it when requested for by a police officer for examination.
