Procedure

1. Go to the service counter at the Department of Immigration and Emigration and obtain a token from the token machine and once your token number is displayed, submit the filled application form (IM01) with the necessary documents.
2. Make the payment and obtain the payment receipt (the date and time to collect the passport will be included).
3. Go to the service counter on the informed date, (after taking a token number) Provide National Identity Card and the Passport payment receipt and obtain the Temporary Travel Document.

Required Documents

• Filled IM01 form (Dhivehi Passport ah edhey form)
• An acceptable document which proved that the applicant need to go abroad due to an emergency
• 02 passport photo (taken not less than 1 months) photo must confirm passport photo standards issued by the DIE. (All registered photo studios are informed of these standards)
• National Identity card (original) made after 01 May 2003 or a document a document issued by the DNR with a photo, and an identity card Number.
• Revenue stamp (worth Rf 10/-).
• Previously held valid passport. (The valid previous passport is needed in order to cancel it. If expired or previously made passport is not submitted, the new passport will be issued as a passport made due to lost of previous passport. The same policy will be used against this issue as the policy made for issuing a passport due to lost. Failing upon to produce previous passport if any will be considered lost or stolen. And you may be levied on a fine of Rf 2000 to Rf 20000 as per Immigration act.)

Eligibility

• The Temporary Travel Document will be issued in the following cases;
  • Entitled to citizens who need to go abroad in case of an emergency and does not meet all the criteria for obtaining a passport.
  • To bring a Maldivian child born in another country to Maldives. If the Passport of a Maldivian citizen is lost while he/ she is in another country.
• The controller of the immigration has the right to give Temporary Travel Document due to other such reasons as well.
• The controller of the immigration has the right not to issue Temporary Travel Document due to mentioned reasons as well.

Fees

Rf 250 for Temporary Travel Document

Fine:

• If an unexpired Temporary Travel Document has been lost a new Temporary Travel will be issued after taking a fine of Rf 400.
• If Temporary Travel Document has been damaged before the due date a new Temporary Travel Document will be issued after taking a fine of Rf 200.

Validity

The temporary travel document can be used only for once. The Temporary Travel Document will be canceled when you return.
