Apply In-Person:
- To apply for Marriage Re-Certification in person, the applicant has to visit the Ministry of Interior Citizenship or the nearest Registrar of the marriage Registry. The address and contact details can be found in the following Link
- Visit the office and get an application form for Marriage Re-Certification from the relevant department.
- Complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections. Attest it with your signature once completed.
- Once completed filling the application form, make sure that you have attached all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Then, submit it in person to the relevant authority at the Ministry of Interior Citizenship office. Or you can send it to the Registrar of the marriage Registry close to you (Find the address in the “Office Location & Contacts” section).
- Once your application is approved or rejected, a message will be sent to your registered phone number and email address.
Required DocumentsEdit
The following documents must be uploaded to have a marriage certificate re-issued:
- Copy of the Marriage Certificate.
- Sworn affidavit in support of claim.
- A photograph showing the Registrar or the Minister with the couple or Photograph of the Couple at the wedding.
- Police Extract where marriage certificate is not available.
- Recent Passport photograph of the couple.

- Note: Payment of the processing fee does not guarantee approval of the service you are applying for. No refund will be made in case the application is rejected.

Need for the DocumentEdit
The Re-Certification of your Marriage Certificate would grant you the following:
- Recognition of your Marriage under the Law, MARRIAGE ACT, CAP M6, VOLUME 8, LAW OF THE FEDERATION OF NIGERIA (2004).
- Express recognition of your Marriage Certificate for Embassy Visa interviews and Immigration purposes.
- Identification number of your Marriage Certificate secured in the National Database.
- National Identification number per couple.
- Recognition of your Marriage Certificate to access Federal Government of Nigeria services.
Information which might helpEdit
Giving false information in my affidavit/documents is an offence/perjury under the Marriage Act – CAP M6 F.L.N. 2004 and Matrimonial Causes Act. It could lead to legal action taken against the offender.
