Procedure

Note: Due to COVID 19 related disruptions, before beginning a new application and/or making a payment, please contact the Nigerian embassy or immigration office for opening dates/times and hours of service.

Apply Online

1. To apply for a Asylum VISA online, the applicant has to visit the Nigeria Immigration Portal by clicking the following link: apply online
2. In the page that opens, click the drop-down under ‘Processing Country’ option and select the country that you wish to process your VISA in, then scroll down and click “Start Application” button.
3. A dialogue message will appear in which you have to click “Acknowledge” button. In the next page you have to select anyone among the email accounts present there and login by entering the user credentials.
4. Next page will ask for the user details, fill all the fields as applicable and click “Submit” button. A dialogue with a link will pop-up, read the ‘Data Protection Policy’ if required and click “Acknowledge” button.
5. Then your online application form will get opened. In the first step, you will have to fill the name and other personal details of the applicant, and then upload a passport size photograph. Do as required and click “Next” button.
6. Correspondingly, complete all the steps by providing the details as required and clicking “Next” button. Finally check the “I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS FORM” box and click “Submit Application” button.
7. Applicant details page will be displayed. Check once and click “Proceed to Online Payment” button. In the payments page, click to select Payment Currency “Pay in Dollars” option then Click on “Continue” button.
8. Complete the payment as applicable for the VISA in the payment section by following the on-screen instructions.
9. In the third tab, you can download and print the successful payment receipt by clicking the applicable option and keep it with you.
10. After submission of the online application form, make a hard copy of the completed application form and attach it with the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
11. Visit the office of any Nigerian Diplomatic Mission or applicable VISA Application centre in your country with all the required documents and submit it to the relevant authority.
12. You can also send your application via post to the postal address of the relevant Nigerian Diplomatic Mission.
13. Further decisions will be made by the officials as applicable and you will be informed about the further tasks to be accomplished as applicable.

Eligibility

• Any person who has been abolished from his/her home country as a political refugee and is seeking asylum in the Nigerian Republic can apply.
• The person seeking an Asylum VISA must possess a Conventional Travel Document or Refugee Passport.

Instructions

• An Asylum seeker may apply for any kind of Visitors International Stay Admission (VISA) by following the procedure framed for that particular Stay Admission category until he/she has a valid Conventional Travel Document or Refugee Passport.

• Applicants are advised to read out the instructions listed on the screen before clicking “Start Application” button.

• Applicants can enquire the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Nigerian Immigration Services for contact and address details of a diplomatic mission in his/her country of nationality.

• If you select a processing country other than Nigeria, your payment will be in US Dollars. You will be re-directed to an approved payment platform to complete your application and make your payment in US Dollars.

Need for the Document

• Any person who is a victim of an oppressive government and has left his/her home country as a political refugee must possess a Visitors International Stay Admission if he/she wants to enter Nigeria for Asylum.

• Certain citizen of a foreign country may be eligible to visit Nigeria without a visa provided they fall within the categories of persons exempted based on visa free, waiver, reciprocity and bilateral agreements.
