Apply In Person
- Gather and prepare all the required documents for your application
- Visit the immigration department office in your region to obtain the application form
- Fill the application form and attach all the required documents to it in a single file
- Go to the department of immigration to submit your complete application
- The Immigration officer will go through your application to verify if it meets all the requirements
- Once the application has been verified, pay an upfront processing fee of $100 at the FDH Bank Counter located in any of the Immigration offices and obtain the payment receipt.
- Upon payment the PRP application will be forwarded to the immigration committee for committee consideration
- At the completion of the committee processes, the documents will be sent to the Ministry of home Affairs and Internal Security for ministerial approval
- Once a decision is made you will be formally notified if your application has been approved or rejected. If approved you will be required to pay the appropriate fees within 30 days from date of notification.
- Upon payment of the required fee you will obtain the complete PRP permit.
Apply Online
- Visit the Malawi e-permit portal through this link: Link
- Create an account by clicking on the “Login” hyperlink on the information bar and select “create an account” proceed to setting up your account and login.
- Once you have logged in, click on “New” at the information bar to commence your application.
- Open the Drop-box and scroll down to choose “Permanent Residence Permit (PRP)” and a new drop-box for permit sub-category will appear, in it chose the type of permanent residency that suits your application.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page as you read about the permit and cross check if you have the necessary documents
- At the bottom of the page, click on “Apply Now” to start your application
- Fill all the required information in all the pages and submit your application for processing and issuing of the PRP Permit

- A foreign national who wish to reside in Malawi permanently, foreign wives of Malawians, elderly people who would wishes to spend their life after retirement in Malawi, (people of assured income) over aged dependants of Permanent Resident Permit Holder, any person who has been ordinarily resident in Malawi for a period not less than five years.

- You can add dependants in your PRP
- Permit will be cancelled if you the holder failed to return to the Malawi once in 12 months’ time
