Procedure

Apply In Person

1. To Register a Vehicle, the applicant has to approach the New Zealand Transport Agency – link
2. Before registering a vehicle, it must pass a safety inspection known as a Warrant of Fitness (WoF). This inspection ensures that the vehicle meets the required safety standards. The applicant can get a WoF at authorized inspection centers.
3. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
4. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
5. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
7. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
8. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
10. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
11. Then the application will be processed further.
12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
13. For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
14. This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

To be eligible to register a vehicle in New Zealand, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

• The applicant must be the owner of the vehicle.
• The vehicle must be roadworthy.
• The vehicle must have a valid Warrant of Fitness (WoF).
