ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. The applicant has to obtain the passport application form from any Immigration office which is free of charge.Contact Link
  2. For those residing outside Malawi, he/she can obtain the application form from the nearest Malawi foreign missions.
  3. Now, fill up the application form with the correct details and submit it.
  4. After collecting and filing of the application, the applicant should have part B commissioned by a Magistrate or a Commissioner for Oaths.
  5.  The applicant must report to the District Commissioners Office where he or she comes from to confirm the place of origin on part C.
  6.  The applicant must present himself or herself at one of the following Immigration Offices: Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu depending on where he or she is residing for easy follow-up, and be subjected to thorough interviews by the Immigration Officer at the counter.
  7.  The applicant will have his or her biometrics (picture, fingerprints, and signature) taken.
  8.  The applicant must pay the passport fee at the Malawi Savings Bank located within the Immigration Offices.
  9. The processing time will take 5 working days.

The following are entitled to Diplomatic Passport:

  •  The President of the Republic of Malawi.
  •  Diplomats and their spouses.
  • The First Lady.
  •  Principal Secretaries.
  •  The Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and the spouse.
  •  The Army Commander.
  •  Former President of the Republic of Malawi and Spouse.
  •  The Inspector-General of Police.
  •  Former Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and the spouse.
  •  High Court/Supreme Court judges and their spouses.
  • Chief Secretary to the Government.
  •  Director-General, National Intelligence Service.
  •  Deputy Chief Secretary.
  • The Chief Commissioner of Prisons.
  •  Former Chief Secretary to the Government.
  •  The Chief Immigration Officer.
  •  Cabinet Ministers and their spouses.
  •  The Ombudsman.
  • The speaker of the National Assembly and Spouse.
  • The Law Commissioner.
  •  Members of Parliament.
  •  Leaders of Religious and faith organizations.
  •  The Clerk of Parliament.
  •  Any other person the President may direct.

The total charge for Issuance of a Diplomatic Passport are 30,100.00

ValidityEdit

A Diplomatic Passport is valid for 10 Years except for Members of Parliament which is valid for 5 years.

InstructionsEdit

  • Passport applicants should not make travel arrangements before their passport is ready. They should apply at least 20 days before their travel date.
  •  Female, married applicants who wish to apply for a passport must show their husband’s names upon production of a Marriage Certificate. In case of reverting to their original maiden names as a result of husbands’ death or divorce, death or divorce certificates must be produced to approve the change.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A Diplomatic Passport is a travel document issued to diplomats and other government officials for work-related international travel, and to accompanying dependents.
  • Having a diplomatic passport is not the equivalent of having diplomatic immunity.
  • It does not mean visa-free travel.
  • A holder of a diplomatic passport must obtain a non-diplomatic visa when traveling to a country where he is not currently nor is going to be accredited as a diplomat, if visas are required to nationals of his country.
