Obtain a National Identification (ID) Card
Applications to obtain a National Identification (ID) Card are submitted to the concerned District Administration Offices (DAO). Make sure that you can present documents that can prove your age and citizenship. In case you do not have a Citizenship Certificate, you will need to obtain one before you can apply for a NID card.
The NID cards will be prepared and issued by the National ID Management Center in Kathmandu. The cards will then be distributed to the concerned District Administration Offices (DAO).
The NID card bears a unique number which is also called the National ID Number
Lost or damaged NID cards
If the National ID Card is damaged or lost, the card holder may obtain a duplicate copy by submitting an application to the National ID Management Center via DAO with the verification and recommendation of the same by the local government body.

National Identification (ID) Cards are issued to Nepalese Citizens and Non-resident Nepalese and Foreign Citizens as Provisioned by law.
Applicants must:
- Have reached the age of 16
- Holds a Nepalese Citizenship Card or eligible to get a Nepalese citizenship card.

The DAO collects necessary information from eligible citizens applying for a NID card and forwards them to NIDMC. National ID cards are prepared and issued from the National ID Management Center in Kathmandu. The cards will then be distributed to the concerned District Administration Offices (DAO) which will distribute the cards to the applicants. Local government agency like Village Development Committee and Municipality recommend people for National ID Card. They are responsible for registering vital events (Birth, Death, Marriage etc.) and send the information to the respective DAO. Other government agencies also support this initiative in various ways.
