You need to fill up the permit form for filming in Nepal containing following details for the need to visit either film development board office or its official website.
- The application for filming in Nepal should be done through the Ministry of Information and Communication Office.
- Visit the Ministry office for the approval then with the permit you can film in Nepal.
When a filming permit is granted, a Liaison Officer will be appointed by the Ministry of Information and Communications who is sent from the concerned government agencies to monitor as well as to give advice at the shooting locations. A filmmaker should be aware of the fact that filming is not allowed, under any circumstances, without acknowledgement of the Monitoring officer.
Required DocumentsEdit
- A letter made by the assigned local coordinator, informing the Secretary of Ministry of Information and Communications of the purpose of applying for shooting permit.
- An assignment letter made by the foreign filmmaker, showing they have chosen and hired a local coordinator.
- An Application Form as prescribed by the rules affixing Nepali postal stamp
- Supporting documents needed for permit consideration:
- Synopsis of the filming story. Story board for TV Commercials, treatment for documentaries.
- Theme (concept) and Lyrics for music videos.
- Details of content and objectives of program presentation for TV programs.
- Name-list, passport numbers, positions and arrival date of foreign film crew with biodata.
- A schedule of filming in Nepal specifying exact dates and locations (for all types of productions)
- Equipment list with values for custom clearance.
- Consent letters of concerned organizations:
- Consent Letter of Department of Archaeology if filming in archaeological places
- Authorization letter to the Travel Agency/Local Domestic Film Production Company, as a local coordinator by the producer.

FeesEdit
A nominal fee of Nepali Rupees 50.00 as permit fee (Nepali postal stamp.
Nepali Rupees 15,000.00 for censorship of visuals which have been filmed during the filming period are charged.
Department of Archaeology will appoint one liaison officer who should be paid NPR 200.00 everyday as allowance.
ValidityEdit
License to produce feature films shall remain valid for three years. As regards to other films, the license shall remain valid for only a year.

Processing TimeEdit
The process will be completed within two working days for tv commercials. For feature films,TV series, docu-dramas or any fictional stories, allow no less than 14 working days for the Ministry of Information and Communications to consider the script.

- Get the permit form from Nepal film board office or its official site.
- Get consent letters from concern office.
Following listed are instructions that has be followed
- During the shooting of the film, the presence of Liaison Officer is mandatory.
- If film producer is a foreign national, s/he must apply for permission at the nearest Nepali Embassy of Consulate Generals Office before making a public show.
- The film producer, in case a foreign national, must submit a copy of the film free of cost to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
- Foreign filmmakers are suggested to hire a local coordinator. Each coordinator then must represent the foreign filmmaker for obtaining any necessary permit. They are also responsible for representing the film company in any matter arising both during and after the completion of shooting in Nepal. Also, once you have chosen and hired a local coordinator, they will help you compile the necessary documents to present to the Ministry of Information and Communications, Film Development Board, Nepal and other offices on your behalf.

- Information regarding the proposed films name (title), type (genre), Language and technology (format) should be included.
- A full list of all technicians and artists visiting Nepal including their full names, nationalities, professional status, copy of passport and temporary addresses in Nepal. On the part of Nepali artistes and technicians, quote the number required.

- Specify whether the name of the film coincides with any film already produced or proposed.
- State approximate cost of the film, aim of film production, and any other relevant matters.
- A complete list of all filmmaking equipment being temporarily imported into Nepal, along with list of row stock / tapes etc.
- Type of proposed film (Feature, Newsreel, Documentary or TV. production, etc.)
- A list of the locations you wish to film in Nepal.
- Proposed date of commencement of filming and duration.
- Full details of the sequences to be photographed in Nepal.

It doesnt take much to get permission from the concerned authorities to shoot in Nepal if one is well acquainted with the basic rules and regulations of the same.

When applying for filming in Nepal, it is advisable that you do not have anything in the script that offends Nepals national institutions, religion, customs and culture. The film must not be deemed as threat to security. Finally, shooting must not cause any significant effect/damage on the natural environment
