Obtaining a Diplomatic Passport
- Fill up and submit application form along with all the required documents to the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
Lost Passport
- If the diplomatic passport is lost, stolen or destroyed, the person must immediately inform theMinistry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, but in foreign countries the Diplomatic or Consular Representative Office of Latvia.
- Upon investigation of the case, the Representative Office is co-operation with the Ministry of Interior of Republic of Latvia issues temporary persons identification card as a substitute to the lost, stolen or destroyed diplomatic passport.
Required DocumentsEdit
Obtaining a passport for the first time
- certificate of birth, if person is under the age of 15 or a person has not been issued a passport after reaching the age of 15;
- (identification document issued abroad, if it is in holders possession;)
For lost, stolen or destroyed passport
- explanatory letter about the circumstances of the stolen, lost or destroyed passport;
- written application submitted by one of childs parents if under the age of 16.
- decision from Police about the persons application in case the passport was stolen;

EligibilityEdit
- President of the State;
- Parliament deputies;
- Prime Minister, ministers, ministers of the state;
- Persons duly authorised by the Parliament or the President of the State to represent the Republic of Latvia in foreign countries;
- Persons duly authorised by the Cabinet of Ministers to represent the government of Latvia in foreign countries;
- Persons of the diplomatic and consular service staff;
- Spouse (husband / wife) and under-aged children of the employee of the diplomatic and consular service, if they are residing together in the country the diplomatic and consular services are rendered for an indefinite period of time;
- Persons, who according with the law are entitled to represent the Republic of Latvia in foreign countries.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, nor consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allows the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued.
Rights to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
A Diplomatic passport is a document that proves that its holder is an official representative of the Republic of Latvia in foreign countries.
The diplomatic passport is issued to the citizens of the Republic of Latvia, and it is the property of the state. The law On diplomatic passports regulates the issue and the control procedures of the diplomatic passports.
