ProcedureEdit

  1. Make sure that you are eligible to apply for the procedure.
  2. Gather all necessary documents.
  3. Submit your request along with all other required documents at the competent municipal civil registry or at the diplomatic or consular offices of the Republic of Kosovo, in case you are staying abroad.
  4. Pay the administrative fee.

Required DocumentsEdit

For those who would like to be released from their Kosovo citizenship (adults):

  • Proof of possessing citizenship in another State or is guaranteed (Proof) to obtain the said citizenship
  • Birth Certificate
  • Copies of the ID
  • Proof of residence in the foreign country where the applicant resides
  • Proof of residence in the Republic of Kosovo, from the municipality the applicant last resided.
  • Evidence showing that the applicant has met all financial obligations (evidence from Tax Administration and the Office of the Municipal Property Tax on fulfillment of tax obligations)
  • Evidence from municipal centers, stating that the applicant has fulfilled all financial obligations or responsibility.
  • Document that can prove that the applicant is not under criminal investigation and has not been convicted for any offenses, issued by the competent court of the Republic of Kosovo, Kosovo police, and by a competent authority of a foreign state where the applicant is a citizen or where the applicant last stayed in the past 6 months
  • Evidence that the citizen took an oath that the applicant is not employed by the civil service, by the court, a public prosecutor, a member of the Kosovo police, a member of Kosovo security or member of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency.
  • Proof of payment of administrative fees in the amount of 150 euros, in case the application was granted by the body.

Note: All documents provided as evidence, should be translated in any of the official languages ??in Kosovo.


For those who would like to be released from their Kosovo citizenship (minors):

  • Proof of possessing citizenship in another State or is guaranteed (Proof) to obtain the said citizenship
  • Birth Certificate of the minor
  • Certificate issued by the registrar for the parents
  • Proof of domicile / residence in the foreign country where the applicant lives.
  • Proof of last residence in the Republic of Kosovo of the parents
  • A copy of the identity document of the minor
  • A copy of the identity document of both parents
  • Declaration of compliance by both parents in writing (certified)
  • Consent of the minor, for those older than 14 to 18 years.
  • If the application is being submitted by the parent who has custody over the child, document that can prove that the custody was granted to the said parent
  • Proof of payment of administrative fees in the amount of 50 euros, in case the application was granted by the body.

Note: All documents provided as evidence, should be translated in any of the official languages ??in Kosovo. This requirements also applies to adopted children.


For those who would like to be released from their Kosovo citizenship through Article 7.2 of the Law on Citizenship:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Proof of certification of paternity / maternity
  • Parents' proof of possessing citizenship in another State
  • Warranty (proof) that the child will obtain his/her parents' or one of the parent's nationality.
  • A copy of the identity document of both parents or either of the parents
  • A copy of the travel document the child possesses
  • Proof of payment of administrative fees in the amount of 50 euros, in case the application was granted by the body.

Note: All documents provided as evidence, should be translated in any of the official languages ??in Kosovo.

EligibilityEdit

A citizen may ask to be released from their Kosovo citizenship through Article 7.2 of the Law on Citizenship, in this case at least one of the child's identified parent will ask the Republic of Kosovo to release the child from being a citizen of Kosovo with the guarantee that the child will not become stateless.

Processing TimeEdit

Decisions regarding the granting of the petition will be processed within 30 days. In case the applicant would like to make an appeal regarding the decision, they may do so within 30 days from the time the decision was released.

InstructionsEdit

Applications for minors may be submitted by both or by either of the parents, at the Office of Civil Registry in the municipality where they are currently residing.

Applications can also be submitted at diplomatic or consular offices of the Republic of Kosovo, in case the applicants is staying outside the territory of Kosovo.

For those who would like to be released from their Kosovo citizenship through Article 7.2 of the Law on Citizenship, this option must be exercised before the child reaches the age of 7.
