ProcedureEdit

  1. Applications to obtain an identity card must be personally submitted by the citizen. For those younger than 18 years old or those unable to apply for the procedure themselves, applications may be submitted through their legal representative.
  2. Fill up and submit the application form along with all other required documents. The competent authority shall issue a certificate to the applicant upon receipt of the request .
  3. The applicants biometric data will be collected (fingerprints, signature and photo).


In cases, where the holder changes his/her name and surname; or changes permanent residence; or the picture on the ID no longer shows the holders true appearance, a new ID card must be issued. A citizen is given 30 days to report the change and to request for a new ID card.

In case of loss or theft, a holder is given 8 days to report to the competent authority about the incident leading to the cancellation of the said ID, and issues demand for a new ID card.

Required DocumentsEdit

Applying for the ID card for the first time:

  • Birth Certificate (for married women, marriage certificate)
  • Resident's Certificate
  • Certificate of Citizenship (will be required at the time of discharge from the body)


For lost or stolen ID cards:

  • Copy of ID card or passport if available
  • Police Report for the loss of the citizen who must be no older than three months
  • Two photos not older than three months
  • Replacement fee of 10 euros


Changing information printed on the card:

  • Identity Card
  • Birth Certificate (for married women, marriage certificate)
  • The decision to change the data
  • Resident's Certificate (if the reason for requesting a new ID is due to change of address)
  • Application fee of 10 euros


Renewing your ID card:

  • Identity Card.
  • Birth Certificate (for married women marriage certificate)
  • The decision to change the data.
  • Resident's Certificate (if the reason for requesting a new ID is due to change of address)
  • Photograph taken at the registration center
  • Application fee of 10 euros


Changing an UNMIK ID into a Republic of Kosovo ID:

  • UNMIK identity card.
  • Birth certificate or citizenship (will be required at the time of issuance of the body).
  • Resident's Certificate (if any change of address).

EligibilityEdit

  • All citizens of Kosovo older than 16 must possess an ID.
  • Foreign nationals may apply to obtain an identity card if at the time of the application they are considered as temporary or permanent resident in the Republic of Kosovo.


Note: A citizen may not possess more than one identity card issued by the state.



FeesEdit

ValidityEdit

  • For those who obtained the ID card when they are older than 26 years old : 10 years
  • For those aged between 16 - 26 when the card was issued: 5 years
  • Anyone older than 60 years old when they obtained the card: No expiration


The ID card also ceases to be valid when:

  • The holder dies
  • The holder no longer holds Kosovo citizenship.
  • The holder no longer resides in the territory of Kosovo.

Note: In cases where the holder no longer holds Kosovo citizenship or resides in the territory, the ID card must be submitted to the competent authority within 8 days following the day the holder ceases to be eligible to possess an ID.

Processing TimeEdit

Identity cards will be issued within 15 days from the date when the application was submitted. And it must be collected by the applicant within 30 days from the time it was available to be picked up, there are cases where this can be extended, but not longer than six months.

Issuance of National ID card falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.



Required InformationEdit

You will need the following information when you fill up the form:

  • Name and surname
  • Date of birth , place of birth , ID number and gender
  • Residence
  • Citizenship
  • Parents' names , dates of birth and personal numbers
  • Date and place of the application
  • Name and surname and residence of the legal representative



Need for the DocumentEdit

An identity card is a document issued to a citizen stating the holders' name, citizenship, gender, date of birth, place of birth and the address where the holder resides.

Identity cards can be presented as identification document when you cross state borders, as long as there is an existing agreement between states.

Following are procedures on how to obtain a national identity card in Kosovo.



Information which might helpEdit

The ID card contains the following information:

  • Symbol of the state of Kosovo
  • Name of the document
  • Name of the holder
  • ID's serial number
  • Place of Registration
  • Date and place of birth
  • Gender
  • Citizenship
  • Personal contact number
  • Card's expiration
  • Where and which state body issued the card.

The ID card also features a photo of the holder and stores the holder's biometric data. Identity Cards are printed in the official languages ??and official languages used in the municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo .



Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

Holders of the National Identification card are required to present their ID's whenever an officer authorized by law request for it, or asked to show the ID card to be identified.
