ProcedureEdit

Verification or confirming of birth certificate is the process of authenticating the birth details of a person.

Apply In-Person:

  1. Authentication of legal documents e.g. birth certificates in Kenya is done by the Legal and Host Country Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).  Relevant issuing authorities certify documents prior to authentication.
  2. If the applicant /child is born in Nairobi, an applicant is required to obtain certification from the Registrar of Birth at ACK Bishop House Gardens. If born outside of Nairobi, an applicant is required to obtain certification from the Registrar of Births at Hass Plaza.
  3. The requisite documents as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page should be submitted to the Department of Civil Registration or the local district registrar’s office, or the huduma centers (Civil Registration - Birth section) located countrywide.
  4. Upon receipt of the application dossier, the registrar shall proceed and register the request, a fee of 200 KSH is charged for each copy.
  5. At the time of submission, awaiting card/slip as an acknowledgment will be issued to the applicant which should be surrendered while collecting the certified copies.
  6. Processing time is within two (2) working days, while the collection of the document is after 2 working days.
  7. Upon completion of the search through the government vital record, where the birth was registered, the certified copy (ies) will be made available for withdrawal by the applicant against their identity card and awaiting card/slip.
