ProcedureEdit

  • All applications to be are done to the National Construction Authority. Nowadays this is done online.
  • All applications should be submitted at least 30 days before the expiry of the current license or practicing license.
  • All applications for renewal should be submitted INDIVIDUALLY for each project under execution


Apply Online

  1. To make an application for renewal to be a contractor you need to visit the National Constructions Authority’s Website to make the application.
  2. Once you are on the page, choose option “Renew your Practicing License” under “Contractors” tab on the menu, to go to the next page.
  3. In the new page click on "License Renewal Portal" under "Quick links" which should take you to the portal for renewal. If you don't have an account create an account by clicking the "Register" option or if you already have an account , skip the registration process and log in.
  4. Log into your account with the National ID/ Passport number and password used during the registration process.
  5. Once you have logged in click on the “Renewals” tab then click on “Renew Practicing License”
  6. Enter your registration Number and click on “Load Licenses”
  7. After submission of the online renewal application, an invoice will be sent to your email address used during registration with the amount to be paid and mode of payment. You will receive a text message notifying you of the sent invoice, and this will be sent via the phone number used during registration.
  8. In your account, you will be required to key in the Bank Slip Transaction Number or the M-Pesa Transaction Number after payment.
  9. After this processing of your registration will begin
  10. After a successful renewal application, an annual practicing license and NCA certificate will be auto generated in your online portal.

  3. Certified copy of current business license
  4. If applying for Electrical Engineering attach a certificate from Energy Regulatory Commission
  5. Copy of Company registration certificate — Certificate of Registration/Certificate of Incorporation
  6. 3 Years audited accounts and other relevant financial information
  7. Certified copies proving ownership of assets
  8. KRA Tax compliance certificate
  9. Contractors association membership certificate

  • The validity is usually one year.
  • However for foreign firms registration shall be valid for the period of the construction works contract or project in question

  7. Certificate of Incorporation with the Registrar of companies.
  8. Certified true copy of memorandum & Articles of Association.
  9. Tax details and Clearance Certificate
  10. Country of origin

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A person shall not carry on the business of a contractor unless the person is registered by the Board under the National Construction Authority Act.
  • A foreigner needs to be registered with the NCA to be able to carry on business as a contractor in Kenya.
  • You cannot operate with an expired practicing license or a NCA certificate

Information which might helpEdit

  • A foreign person seeking registration under shall, in the case of a foreign firm, be eligible for registration if at least one of the partners or directors of the firm possesses such technical qualifications, skills or experience as the Board may from time to time prescribe.
  • Any person who contravenes this commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one million shillings, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both, and in the case of a continuing offence, to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues.
