ProcedureEdit

The electrician’s license entitles the holder to carry out all types of electrical installation work in Kenya without supervision. Apply Online

  1. Applicant with an already existing personal EPRA online account should visit the website, navigater the cusor hover the“online services” section on the homepage menu.
  2. Login to your individual account created using your username and password
  3. Once successful login go to the “License Management” option on the main menu and click on the “My Licences” option on the drop menu.
  4. View the license you want to renew by clicking the “view license” tab
  5. Proceed to apply for renewal of your license by clicking the “Resume Renewal” tab
  6. Under the Bio Data Section Complete your profile if there is any missing data, then click the “next” tab.
  7. For each of the listed required documents, do the following:
  8. Click on the Choose Files button. Go to where the document is saved, select it, and then click the “Open” tab.
  9. Once you have browsed and selected all the required Files, click on Upload Files
  10. To upload a passport photo, click on the Browse button. Go to where the photo is saved, select it, and then click the “Open” tab
  11. Adjust the area of the photo to be displayed by hovering the mouse pointer on the photo, and dragging the four-sided arrow mouse pointer that appears
  12. Reduce/ enlarge the photo by sliding the button that appears below the photo.
  13. Once you are satisfied with the photo to be displayed click on the “Crop & Upload Image”tab.
  14. Proceed to pay the renewal fee by choosing either Mpesa or Bank deposit payment option, then click the “save the payment” taband enter the confirmation code.
  15. For the M-Pesa payment option follow the instructions displayed on the screen to make the payment
  16. Click on the “Submit” tab to submit your renewal application for review by the Energy Regulatory Commission licensing department.
  17. Once you submit your license renewal application, you will receive an email confirming the submission of the application.
  18. You can see the status of the application by signing in to your EPRA account, go to License Management, and clicking on “Application History”.
  19. The license application shall be processed within 30 days from the date of submission.
  20. The application shall be reviewed for material completeness before approval.
  21. Once approved, the licensee shall download the license from their online account by:
  22. Logging into their account, then
  23. Go to license management then
  24. Go to My License, then view License.
  25. Download the license using the download license link provided.

EligibilityEdit

  • Applicant should be registered electrician class A-1/2 with the EPRA and a holder of a valid or expired license.


FeesEdit

The annual renewal fee is as follows

  • Class A1- ksh. 2000
  • Class A2- ksh. 2000

Note: Any renewal done later than the 31st of March of every year attracts penalty charges equivalent to 50% of the renewal amount


ValidityEdit

  • All licenses expire by 31st December of every year and must be renewed no later than 31st of March of the following year.
  • A delay in renewal will attract a penalty equivalent to 50% of the renewal amount.

  • The electrician’s license entitles the holder to carry out all types of electrical installation work in Kenya without supervision. A person shall not carry out any electrical installation work unless the person is licensed by the Commission as an electrician.
  • This license should be renewed annually for the holder to legally operate as an Electrician class A-1/2 in Kenya.

  • Class C-2, to carry out electrical installation work for connection to a single-phase supply at low voltage to up to two-story residential and commercial buildings not used as factories or places of public entertainment;
  • Class C-1, to carry out electrical installation work as in Class C-2, and for connection to a three-phase supply at low voltage to up to four-story buildings not used as factories or places of public entertainment;
  • Class B, to carry out electrical installation work as in Class C-1, but without limitation as to the number of stories in the buildings and whether used as factories or places of public entertainment or otherwise and for connection to supply metered at voltages not exceeding medium;
  • Class A-1, to carry out all kinds of electrical installation work;
