All applications are done to the National Construction Authority. Nowadays this is done online.
Apply Online
- To make an application for to be a contractor you need to visit the National Constructions Authority’s Website to make the application.
- Once you are on the page, now select "Register to Be A Contractor (Local)" option under "Contractors" tab in the menu.
- This will take you to the next page where you are supposed to click on option “Local Contactor Registration Portal” which is under heading "Quick Links".
- After clicking the link, this will direct you to the next page where you need to click on “Register” and create an account by filling in the requested information in each field.
- Log into your account with the National ID/ Passport number and password used during the registration process.
- Once you have logged in click on the “New Application” tab then click on “New Contractor Registration”
- Click on the “Application Requirement” to view the needed documentation and information. A list of the the needed Application requirements and documentations can be found at the “Required Section” of this page.
- Upload and submit the required documents.
- After submission of the online registration application, an invoice will be sent to your email address used during registration with the amount to be paid and mode of payment. You will receive a text message notifying you of the sent invoice, and this will be sent via the phone number used during registration.
- In your account, you will be required to key in the Bank Slip, Transaction Number or the M-Pesa Transaction Number after payment.
- After this processing of your application will begin.

- Academic certificates and testimonials for the technically qualified directors
- CR 12
- Certified copy of current business license
- If applying for Electrical Engineering attach a certificate from Energy Regulatory Commission
- Copy of Company registration certificate — Certificate of Registration/Certificate of Incorporation
- 3 Years audited accounts and other relevant financial information
- Certified copies proving ownership of assets
- KRA Tax compliance certificate
- Contractors association membership certificate

EligibilityEdit
All Individuals or companies interested in Construction Business and other related construction services are eligible registered with the National Construction Authority.
- Contractors in Building Industry and others stakeholders who are interested in expansion of the construction industry;
- Any person who possesses technical qualifications and registered by the relevant professional Body and suitable to carry out duties in matters relating to construction industry as envisaged under Section 23 of the construction Act.

InstructionsEdit
An application for registration shall be in the prescribed form and shall be accompanied by the prescribed fee, and shall demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Board that the person, or, in the case of a firm, at least one director or partner thereof—
- is the holder of the minimum technical qualifications and skills prescribed by the Board for the class of contract works in respect of which registration is sought;
- has the necessary experience prescribed by the Board in works involving construction, erection, installation, alteration or any other activity connected therewith;
- has professional and general conduct which in the opinion of the Board, makes the person suitable to be registered under the National Construction Authority Act; and
- has the necessary plant and equipment for the category of works for which the registration is sought.

- A person shall not carry on the business of a contractor unless the person is registered by the Board under the National Construction Authority Act.
Information which might helpEdit
- A person seeking registration under shall, in the case of a firm, be eligible for registration if at least one of the partners or directors of the firm possesses such technical qualifications, skills or experience as the Board may from time to time prescribe.
- Any person who contravenes this commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one million shillings, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both, and in the case of a continuing offence, to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues.
