Kenya - Obtain Temporary Driver License

ProcedureEdit

Go to the nearest driving licence testing centre with the following:

  • Certified copy of your identity document (ID) or temporary ID
  • Two black-and-white ID photographs
  • The prescribed fee.
  • Complete the Application for a driving licence (DL1) form.
  • You will undergo an eye test at the testing centre or you can have an eye test done by qualified optometrist and submit the form at the testing centre.
Online application.

Step 1: Apply online at http://www.revenue.go.ke/index.php/notices/kra-news/151-kra-introduces-pin-and-tax-compliance-certificate-verification-facility, fill in the fields of the appropriate form. Print it out upon completion. Dont forget to print out the payment form as well!

Step 2: Pay the licence fee online or at the designated bank.

Step 3: Present your form to the Board of Internal Revenue Officer or VIO at the Drivers Licence Centre (DLC) for endorsement.

Step 4: Proceed to KRA Officer at the DLC for Biometric Data Capturing.

Step 5: A temporary drivers licence, valid for 60 days, will be provided to you.

For applicants who are not Residents of Kenya are required to also present the following documents:

1.Photocopy of passport

2.Photocopy of valid visa

EligibilityEdit

The temporary driving licence is issued in one to two (2) weeks. Temporary licenses are issued for people not entitled to issue commercial licenses used for commercial plates purposes. They are issued in return of on providing they'll be able submit all necessary documents.


FeesEdit

You will need a registration fees of Ksh1500



ValidityEdit

A temporary drivers permit is valid for three (3) months

Processing TimeEdit

InstructionsEdit

1.Must be Eighteen (18) years and above if hoping to obtain a drivers license for motor vehicles;

2.Must be sixteen (17) years and above if hoping to obtain a drivers license for motor cycles;

3.Identify the kind of car you intend to drive;

4.An applicant must ensure that he / she meets the age requirement;

5.Applicant must be in the process of obtain a full drivers license;

6.Ensure that the forms obtained for application are the right ones;

7.Must have an eye test certificate

8.Must have attended any recognized driving college and awarded a certificate

Need for the DocumentEdit

Both the number of vehicles and the population are growing in Kenya. Therefore, the demand for new or prolonged drivers licenses is getting as high as never before, because of this there is a great number of people applying for driving licenses.

You can apply for a temporary driving licence if you have applied for the renewal of your expired licence or have lost your drivers licence.

This licence is valid for only six months and can be issued at any driving licence testing centre in Kenya.
