==Procedure==
 
#Prepare all the required documents for the application of your National Identity Card 
#Visit any parish at your sub-county or any NIRA office in your region. 
#Request for the application from 3, fill it and attach all the documents to it. 
#If there is a queue, sit and wait for your turn and present the application form with the attached documents to the registration officer. 
#The officer will verify your documents if the details provided are correct and will direct you to another station. 
#At this station your biometric data will be collected i.e. your fingerprints and photo. 
#You will be instructed when you ID will be ready for collection. 
#You can also check you ID application status by dialling *216# and access your National Identification Number (NIN) 
Note:
*Where a person turns 18 years, they should apply for National Identity Card. 
*within ninety days of turning eighteen years. 
*Application for Identity Cards cannot be delegated, applicants must apply in person.

==Instructions==
*Where it is possible, all persons are encouraged to apply to be registered within the parish/sub-county of their places of origin or residence. This is particularly important because it is most likely the place where you and your parents/ancestors are best known for the purpose of identification and citizenship verification. 
*For persons originating or with ethnic connections with border communities, you are encouraged to as much as possible go back to these places for registration.

*Spouse’s name
*Parents name, nationality, tribe and clan.

==Need for the Document==
There are many situations where you need to prove that who you are. The identity card will allow you to do this in number of ways;
:*Proving Age
:*Traveling abroad within the East African Region (as per the signed protocols allowing for the use of the National Identity Card across the region)
:*On day to day basis for identification to law enforcement officers.
:*Accessing financial services e.g. Opening a bank account.
:*Processing land transactions
:*Confirming right to work.
:*Accessing public services for which citizens are entitled.
:*Identifying you as a citizen for purposes of voting.
