==Validity==
 
*In case of non-transport vehicles like two wheelers and cars, the registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of first registration and it is renewed after every five subsequent years. 
*In case of transport vehicles like goods and passenger carriers the registration certificate is valid till certificate of fitness is valid. *The Non-Transport Category vehicle is renewed for 5 years. 
*The Transport Category Vehicle is renewed for 1 year. 
*Renewal should be made not more than 60 days before the date of its expiry

No person shall drive any Motor Vehicle and no owner of Motor Vehicle shall cause or permit the vehicle to be driven in any public place or any other place, unless the vehicle is registered in accordance with Chapter 4 of IMV Act 1988.

==Need for the Document==
 
*Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state. 
*As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, all vehicles either transport or non-transport should renew their registration of vehicle after a period of time as allowed 
*For Non-transport type vehicle like car, bike etc. need to be renewed after 15 years and 5 years afterwards 
*For transport type vehicles like bus the renewal is required for every year, as long as it is considered road worthy by the department.
