Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. For a Permit to Export Milk or Milk Products, a person has to approach the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development (DAHLD) office. Link to Contact
2. Applicants should make sure to provide all necessary information in the application form.
3. Applicants must make sure to carry both photocopies and originals of all documents that are needed for completing this procedure.
4. Documents that are needed for completing this procedure are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Applicant must attach photocopies of documents and whichever original document is needed along with the application form while submitting it at the Department of Animal Health and Livestock Development (DAHLD) office and pay the prescribed application fees.
6. The DAHLD will verify the application and dispatch an inspector to conduct an inspection on the consignment.
7. The inspector will take portions of the product as samples and take them to the government laboratory for testing, where the levels of bacterial and fat in the milk will be tested to determine whether they are within the standard requirements.
8.  The inspector will file a report and forward it to the DAHLD director and if the products meet the standard requirements, an export permit will be produced
9.  Then the applicant will be notified through his/her email or telephone to collect the permit.
10. The applicant will be notified regarding the availability of the permit within 7 days.
11. Applicants can visit the office and collect their permits once they got the notification.
12. If there is no notification provided by concerned authorities even after 7 days, then, the applicant can visit the office to know the status of their application.

Eligibility

Any individual or a business owner in Malawi who is willing to export Milk and Milk Products from Malawi to all other countries of the world is eligible.

Fees

Please contact the DAHLD for fees through the contacts provided above.

Validity

The export permit is valid for One month.

Instructions

•  Ensure to obtain all the requirements from the county the applicant wants to export to, as some countries have strict measures that may deny entry if he/she doesn’t meet their standard procedures.
• A person shall not export Milk and Milk Products out of the country without a valid export permit issued by the Director.
• Applicants must provide genuine information while applying for this procedure.
• Applicants should make sure to follow all instructions provided by concerned authorities properly.
• Applicants must complete the application form before submitting. An incomplete application will be rejected.
