Canada - Obtain your Birth Certificate

The birth certificate is provided when you register a birth.


Provide eligibility criteria's for going through this procedure.

Who can obtain the birth certificate.

  • The person who is the subject of the certificate.
  • A parent of a child under 19 years of age, or if the child is incapable.
  • A custodial guardian if the parent is incapable
  • A person with written authorization from one of the above.
  • An officer of any provincial government or the government in Canada who requires the certificate for discharge of official duties.
  • Any other person who satisfies the Chief Executive Officer of the good faith of the person's cause for requiring the certificate.

Required Information

A list which displays the kind of information which is required to complete the procedure.
1. Date of Birth.
2. City or County of Birth.

Call toll-free 1 888 876-1633 in British Columbia to order certificates by telephone. From outside of BC, call the toll line at 250 952-2557.

To apply by e-mail please download the form from the follwing link and fill up and send it to the below e-mail address.

N.B. To order certified photocopies of registration documents or genealogy documents, application must be made in person or by mail as often additional supporting documentation is required.

Required Documents

1. Proof of child birth from the Hospital.


Courier Service costs $60.00 per certificate. For courier service, applicants will receive special handling for the processing of the document requested.

Processing Time

Processing time for certificates is 2 to 5 business days.

Processing time for certified photocopies is 20 business days.
